Job description

About Boast

Boast is redefining how companies unlock R&D funding, turning a complex, manual, and audit-prone process into a streamlined, scalable engine for growth. By combining deep technical and R&D tax expertise with purpose-built AI, Boast helps companies across Canada and the U.S. unlock critical funding with confidence so they can focus on building and growing. Since 2011, Boast has helped thousands of businesses access over $600 million in innovation capital.

At Boast, you have the opportunity to do meaningful, high-impact work without operating in a rigid structure. You are trusted to take ownership, work directly with interesting clients, and contribute to how solutions are built and delivered. Problems are complex, the work is collaborative, and the pace is fast, which creates an environment where you can expand beyond a single specialty, build real judgment, and see the direct impact of your work. For those who want responsibility, visibility, and the ability to influence outcomes, let's talk!

About the Role

As a Technical Solutions Manager you'll help transform complex technical and financial information into high-quality R&D tax credit claims for companies across Canada and the U.S.

You’ll work directly with technical and R&D teams to understand the work they’re doing, identify eligible R&D activities, and translate complex projects into clear, defensible claim narratives. You’ll also help quantify eligible spend by reviewing payroll data, contractor costs, financial documentation, and supporting materials through Boast’s platform and delivery process.

This is a highly collaborative, detail-oriented role that combines technical curiosity, analytical thinking, and strong communication skills. You’ll balance multiple concurrent claim deliverables in a fast-paced environment while working closely with Delivery Managers, Product, and client stakeholders to ensure claims are accurate, efficient, and audit-ready.

This role is ideal for someone with a STEM, technical consulting, or R&D-related background who enjoys solving complex problems, asking thoughtful questions, and producing meaningful work that directly supports innovation and growth.

  • Location: Montreal preferred; Toronto or Ottawa may be considered for strong French speakers.
  • In-person collaboration: This is a hybrid role with occasional in-person work.
  • Compensation: $65,000 - $85,000 annually, plus up to a 10% discretionary bonus.
  • Language: Bilingual fluency in French and English is required.
Key Responsibilities

Manage multiple concurrent claim deliverables in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while balancing quality, accuracy, and competing priorities

Conduct technical interviews with client teams to understand R&D activities, technical challenges, and iterative development work

Analyze technical, payroll, contractor, and financial information to support eligible R&D tax credit claims

Translate complex technical discussions into clear claim narratives, supporting documentation, financial inputs, and client deliverables

Apply SR&ED program requirements and eligibility criteria to technical projects and supporting evidence throughout the claim preparation process

Prepare and support claim deliverables through audit preparation, government reviews, documentation requests, and client follow-up alongside Delivery Managers and Client Partners

Identify gaps, risks, or unclear information in claim materials and proactively work with clients and internal teams to resolve them

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve internal processes, strengthen delivery quality, and support continued platform improvements

What You Bring

1-3+ years of experience in a STEM, R&D, SR&ED, technical consulting, engineering, software, scientific, or related environment

Strong ability to understand technical discussions, ask effective follow-up questions, and synthesize complex information into clear written narratives

Bilingual fluency in French and English is required.

Familiarity with project management tools (e.g., JIRA, Asana, GitHub, Clickup, Linear, Notion), accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks, FreshBooks, Oracle NetSuite) and payroll systems (Ceridian, Wagepoint, QuickBooks) or similar tools, and best practices within each system

Strong analytical and organizational skills, with high attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple deadlines and competing priorities

Comfort working with payroll data, contractor costs, financial documentation, or other structured operational data

Familiarity with R&D tax credits, SR&ED, government incentives, or grant funding is considered a strong asset

Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with technical teams, client stakeholders, and internal delivery partners

A proactive, curious, and solutions-oriented mindset with the ability to operate independently once context and expectations are clear

Ability to travel occasionally for client meetings, conferences, or team collaboration
