Job summary

RiseMe seeks a Technical Manager in Ontario to provide engineering and management support to the Technical Director across multidisciplinary projects. You will coordinate design development, manage interfaces between geotechnical, structural, and construction teams, and drive handover, commissioning, and delivery objectives.

The role combines hands-on technical leadership with project management, ensuring design solutions comply with project requirements, schedule, and client expectations

POSITION SUMMARY

Reports to: Technical Director

TheTechnical Manageris responsible for providing engineering and management support to the Technical Director in a multidisciplinary project environment. The role supports both internal coordination and external interactions, helping to drive technical department and operational initiatives throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities may vary from managing and optimizing design schedules within a construction environment, supporting design review processes, coordinating handover activities, and facilitating interfaces with the Client, to working closely with NEC departments to advance handover, commissioning, and project delivery objectives. In essence, this position serves as a key support function to the Technical Director, ensuring effective coordination across internal and external stakeholders throughout the design development and construction phases.

This role extends beyond traditional design management and requires a hands-on approach and strong expertise in managing technical interfaces. The successful candidate will be able to coordinate across multiple engineering disciplines and project departments to ensure seamless collaboration, efficient decision-making, and successful implementation of design solutions during construction.

The Technical Manager’s key responsibilities are:

• Manage the Design Management Plan and other general Design Submittals in the different interfaces and stages of the construction.
• Coordinate with TD to manage construction interfaces of the design. Promote constructability review meetings during the design progress.
• Support TD on the requirements and internal management of new design or consultancy services required during the project development.
• Support TD on exchange of internal and external communications and workflow processes.
• Lead the design working groups with Designers in Geotechnical-related disciplines and develop the design, in coordination with TD.
• Coordinate the Technical Team on completing data gap analyses and provide a clear design schedule involving all submittals required by the Client, including preparation of documentation to support on TD communications.
• Coordinate with NEC Quality Team and Technical Team to develop the handover and later commission submittals, oversight the transition from design IFC documents to As Built documents. Collaborate with NEC Quality Team and Designers to close out NCRs or ITPs.
• Support to Design Managers in the workshops with the Client and Stakeholders. Focus on timely resolution of disputes and collaborative mindset for getting approval on design deliverables.
• Provide technical background and oversight the design development to guarantee compliance of the design solutions with the Project Agreement.
• Monitor progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies to maintain project timelines and budgets.
• Champion best practices in design coordination, documentation, and stakeholder communication.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil engineering, Infrastructure Design, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 8-10 years of experience in design management, technical coordination, or engineering management on major geotechnical, tunnelling, structural, or temporary works projects.
• Experience in both engineering and management roles within large infrastructure or construction projects is highly desirable.
• Previous field experience as a Superintendent or Specialist Engineer working for a construction contractor is considered a strong asset.
• A background in Geotechnical and/or Tunnelling Engineering is highly valued due to the nature of the project.
• Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary design teams, coordinating technical interfaces, and managing the delivery of complex infrastructure projects through all phases of design and implementation.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Strong technical knowledge of geotechnical and structural design, and experience in construction methodologies.
• Coordinate design development to meet the deadlines.
• Excellent Client management and communication skills, with the ability to resolve conflicts and align diverse interests.
• Demonstrated experience in the commissioning and handover processes for Metrolinx projects. Proven track record of delivering complex infrastructure projects from design through implementation would be highly valuated.
• Familiarity with Canadian Standards, Design Requirements and regulatory frameworks.
• Experience in multidisciplinary project environments.
• Ability to balance technical rigor with practical implementation needs.
