Job Description
Job Summary

This is a global technical leadership role focused on actuarial platforms used across North America, Europe, and APAC, with AXIS as the primary system in scope. The role provides deep application and platform expertise to ensure the environment is technically sound, efficient, supportable, and aligned with business needs. Working closely with the Application Owner and acting at the intersection of business, vendor, Operations, Security, and Cloud Infrastructure, the role drives technical clarity, identifies improvement opportunities, and supports the implementation of sustainable platform solutions.

About the Role
  • You will act as the senior technical expert for our actuarial platform landscape, with AXIS as the primary system in scope and additional platforms likely to fall within remit as the environment evolves. You will operate at the center of the ecosystem, working closely with the platform owner, business stakeholders, Operations, Security, Cloud Infrastructure, and the vendor to ensure a sound, efficient, and sustainable setup.
  • The purpose of this role is to bring deep technical understanding, strong judgment, and a clear challenge function to the platform landscape. You will develop a comprehensive end-to-end understanding of the application, its infrastructure footprint, and the wider operating model, and use this to assess whether the current setup across cloud, operations, vendor support, and internal teams is appropriate, efficient, and fit for purpose.
  • You will act as the technical expert for the platform, combining deep application knowledge with strong expertise in Azure and infrastructure design, including compute, VM scale sets, and storage optimization. You will continuously build and apply this combined expertise to assess the current setup, identify weaknesses, and define and support the implementation of improvements.
  • In this role, you will provide application-level expertise to Operations, Security, and Cloud Infrastructure teams, ensuring that infrastructure and operational decisions are aligned with the needs of the platform. You will work closely with the vendor to shape robust, efficient, and scalable solutions, and challenge both vendor recommendations and internal approaches where they are not technically sound or sustainable.
  • Your focus is on technical clarity and platform quality: identifying inefficiencies and risks, improving configuration and setup, clarifying responsibilities where needed, and maintaining accurate technical documentation. You will also oversee key aspects such as compute capacity, storage usage, configuration quality, and operational efficiency across all regions (APAC, EU, and NA).
  • Establish and maintain high-quality technical documentation across the platform landscape, including system design, configuration, infrastructure dependencies, operational processes, technical decisions, ownership boundaries, and key changes, to ensure transparency, supportability, and long-term sustainability.
  • Together, this role ensures that the platform evolves on a technically sound basis and operates in a stable, efficient, and globally aligned manner.
Qualifications and Work Experience
  • Strong understanding of cloud environments, with solid knowledge of Azure infrastructure concepts such as compute, VM scale sets, networking basics, and efficient storage design. Ability to work effectively with Cloud Infrastructure and Operations teams to assess resource usage (CPU, memory, storage), and guide monitoring, scaling, and optimization decisions in line with platform requirements.
  • Practical technical skills enabling hands‑on assessment and targeted improvements, including working knowledge of SQL, scripting (e.g., Python or PowerShell), and data handling patterns. Ability to analyze configurations, automate repetitive tasks where needed, and support implementation of improvements without acting as a full‑time developer.
  • Strong ability to understand platforms end‑to‑end, including application behavior, infrastructure dependencies, and operational processes. Capable of identifying weak points, inefficiencies, and risks, and driving structured improvements in collaboration with relevant teams (Operations, Security, Cloud, Vendor).
  • Good understanding of platform governance and enterprise processes (e.g., risk, compliance, data protection, third‑party/vendor management), with the ability to support technical assessments, provide input to due diligence activities, and help ensure timely and well‑informed decisions.
Soft Skills
  • You are structured, reliable, and take strong ownership of outcomes. You bring clarity to complex and fragmented environments, using sound technical judgment to break down issues, document them clearly, and drive them through to resolution.
  • You communicate effectively across a wide range of stakeholders and work comfortably at the center of the ecosystem, building strong relationships with business stakeholders, Operations, Security, Cloud Infrastructure, and vendors.
  • You are comfortable operating in a technically focused role that spans application, infrastructure, and operations. You combine analytical thinking with a hands‑on, pragmatic mindset, and are motivated to build deep understanding of the platform while applying your broader technical expertise to improve how it is set up and run.
  • You place a strong emphasis on high‑quality technical documentation, ensuring that key decisions, system designs, configurations, and processes are clearly captured, structured, and kept up to date to support transparency, maintainability, and long‑term sustainability.
  • You bring a constructive and challenging mindset, questioning weak or inefficient solutions while working collaboratively with others to arrive at robust, well‑documented, and sustainable outcomes.
Work Experience and Education
  • Typically 5–8+ years of experience in platform, application, infrastructure, or technical solution roles, ideally combining hands‑on technical work with cross‑team coordination.
  • Experience working with enterprise applications or platforms in regulated environments, ideally in actuarial, finance, insurance, or similarly complex domains.
  • Demonstrated experience working across business, vendor, infrastructure, operations, and control functions to assess and improve platform setups.
  • Practical experience contributing to technical improvements, implementation activities, and structured documentation in production environments.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in a technical, quantitative, or analytical field (e.g. computer science, engineering, mathematics, actuarial science, finance, or similar).
