Job Description

The Technical Editor/Assistant Training Manager supports the On-Site Training Manager and staff in developing technical manuals and training materials for a light rail transit design-build project. Responsibilities include reviewing manuals and training materials from subcontractors and internal teams, developing content, and producing training deliverables based on technical inputs. The role involves reviewing manuals, drawings, plans, and specifications, supporting training delivery in a train-the-trainer format, and coordinating training sessions and recordings.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Develop effective technical training modules for LRT systems, vehicle operation, signaling, safety protocols, control systems, maintenance, and emergency response, including planning and evaluation.
  • Review and edit technical manuals and training materials for clarity and audience comprehension, following industry best practices.
  • Create and author training content from various inputs and existing documentation.
  • Assess training effectiveness and improve programs based on feedback and operational changes.
  • Collaborate with departments to align training with business objectives.
  • Liaise with clients and third-party providers for specialized training and updates.
  • Participate in comment resolution and collaborative activities with internal and customer staff.
  • Maintain records of training activities, participant progress, and program effectiveness.
  • Update course documentation regularly for relevance.
  • Provide innovative learning solutions and industry best practices for training challenges.
  • Prepare reports and assist in incident investigations as needed.
  • Manage document production staff to ensure quality deliverables.
Required Skills
  • Degree in English, language arts, or equivalent, with at least five years of experience in technical writing, editing, instructional design, and adult learning in a technical organization.
  • Knowledge of LRT construction, operations, signaling, SCADA, communications, traction power, and safety standards.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe PDF, and Outlook.
  • Experience with web-based collaboration tools like Aconex and Bluebeam.
  • Strong technical reviewing, writing, and editing skills.
  • Ability to coordinate with authors and content providers to meet high-quality, timely deliverables.
Desired Skills
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-moving project environment transitioning from civil construction to systems installation and commissioning.
  • Willingness to be based in Edmonton until project completion.
