Job summary

Small Axe Studios, 2K's newest stand-alone studio in Burnaby, is seeking a Technical Designer with a passion for bridging design and engineering. You will prototype features, build robust content workflows, and ensure feasibility for our sports-focused core experience.

You'll work across disciplines to take ideas from paper to playable systems, build tooling, script gameplay behaviors, and help shape scalable, ship-ready gameplay content with a collaborative team.

Qualifications

• 3+ years experience in technical design or related gameplay implementation roles.
• Deep expertise with scripting systems (e.g., Unreal Blueprint).
• Proven ability to implement gameplay systems from prototype through ship.
• Good understanding of game systems, mechanics, and their interactions.
• Experience working with engineers on feature integrations.
• Excellent problem-solving, debugging, and optimization skills.
• Strong documentation habits and ability to explain technical solutions.
• Proactive, collaborative attitude to empower creative teams.

Responsibilities

• Prototype and implement gameplay systems with engineers and designers.
• Own technical implementation of features and script game logic.
• Optimize workflows and content pipelines with tools engineers.
• Provide technical guidance to other designers and resolve blockers.
• Champion technical documentation and maintain reusable templates.
• Collaborate with engineering to ensure designs are performant and ship-ready.
• Work with animators, audio, and UI/UX to deliver high-quality features.
