Job summary

Brunel is seeking an experienced Team Lead, Surface Projects to drive sustaining capital and operations improvement in a large industrial setting. You will lead multidisciplinary teams across mechanical, electrical, civil, structural, instrumentation, and operations while ensuring safety, schedule, and budget compliance.

The role requires on-site leadership at least three days per week, close collaboration with operations and maintenance, and effective stakeholder management to deliver projects

Qualifications

• Minimum five years leading capital projects in mining/industrial environments.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary project teams through full lifecycle.
• Strong understanding of surface operations and brownfield projects.
• Experience managing contractors, construction activities, and field execution.
• Proven ability to manage scope, schedule, cost, quality, and risk.
• Strong stakeholder engagement, leadership, and communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate with operations, maintenance, engineering and contractors.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and project controls tools.
• Valid driver’s licence and access to active industrial sites.
• Engineering degree or equivalent background preferred.
• PMP designation or equivalent asset.
• Experience in mining/potash/mineral processing assets.
• Knowledge of SAP, Primavera P6, Power BI or similar systems.
• Regular on-site presence of at least three days per week.

Responsibilities

• Lead surface capital and sustaining capital projects from initiation through construction, commissioning, and handover.
• Provide leadership across mechanical, electrical, civil, structural, instrumentation, and operational disciplines.
• Serve as a key contact between operations, maintenance, engineering, contractors, and project teams.
• Support planning, budgeting, scheduling, and risk management.
• Monitor project performance and implement corrective actions for safety, cost, schedule and quality.
• Conduct regular site walks and field inspections to ensure safe, efficient progress.
• Lead project meetings, look-ahead planning sessions, and stakeholder reviews.
• Manage contractor performance and ensure site safety and standards.
• Support procurement activities, equipment coordination, and construction-readiness planning.
• Identify, assess, and manage risks, changes, and opportunities.
• Prepare regular project updates for leadership.
• Maintain a visible field presence and promote a strong safety culture.
• Build relationships across operational and project teams.
• Support transition of completed work into operations and maintenance.

Brunel is currently seeking an experienced Team Lead, Surface Projects to support the planning and execution of sustaining capital and operational improvement projects within a large-scale industrial environment.

This is a hands‑on leadership position responsible for coordinating multidisciplinary project activities across mechanical, electrical, civil, structural, instrumentation, and operational workstreams. The successful candidate will provide day‑to‑day leadership to project teams, contractors, and key stakeholders, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with established project governance requirements.

The position requires a strong field presence, with a minimum of three days per week spent on site supporting execution teams and working closely with operations and maintenance personnel.

• Support procurement activities, equipment coordination, and construction‑readiness planning.
• Identify, assess, and manage project risks, opportunities, scope changes, and change requests.
• Prepare regular project updates and reports, providing clear information and decision support to project and operational leadership.
• Maintain a visible presence in the field and actively promote a strong safety culture.
• Build effective working relationships with operational, maintenance, engineering, construction, and contractor personnel.
• Support the successful transition of completed work into operations and maintenance.

Requirements

• Minimum of five years of experience leading and delivering capital projects within mining, industrial, energy, or other heavy industrial environments.
• Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary project teams through the full project lifecycle.
• Strong understanding of surface operations and brownfield project environments.
• Experience managing contractors, construction activities, and field execution.
• Proven ability to manage project scope, schedule, cost, quality, and risk.
• Strong stakeholder engagement, leadership, and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with operations, maintenance, engineering, contractors, and corporate project teams.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and project controls tools.
• Valid driver’s licence and the ability to access active industrial and construction sites.
• Engineering degree, engineering technology diploma, or an equivalent technical background is preferred.
• PMP designation or another recognized project management certification is considered an asset.
• Experience supporting mining, potash, mineral processing, or other large industrial operations is considered an asset.
• Knowledge of SAP, Primavera P6, Power BI, or comparable project and reporting systems is considered an asset.
• Ability to maintain a regular on‑site presence of at least three days per week
