Job summary

Contract Length: 2 year initial contract

Introduction

Brunel is currently looking for an Electrical Principal Engineer to join our global-leading mining client in Vancouver, British Columbia.

As an Electrical Principal Engineer, you will be responsible for providing technical leadership for the design and delivery of electrical systems across major mining and capital projects. You will oversee the development and review of key electrical engineering deliverables, support power distribution and control system design, ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards, and provide expert guidance on complex technical issues.

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship on engineering projects, technical challenges, and strategic programs.
  • Review, investigate, and develop recommendations related to complex engineering projects and discipline-specific technical issues.
  • Align engineering activities with organizational objectives and contribute to the development of long-term technical strategies.
  • Influence technical strategy, decision-making, and project execution within the assigned discipline.
  • Apply advanced engineering principles, tools, and methodologies to solve complex technical problems and improve project outcomes.
  • Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices, and recommend improvements to engineering programs and processes.
  • Collaborate with site, project, and functional leaders to ensure engineering standards are met and continuous improvements are implemented.
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement initiatives across engineering processes, systems, and products.
  • Identify opportunities to support strategic planning, budgeting, and resource allocation for designated engineering areas.
  • Mentor, coach, and support the development of engineers and technical professionals within the organization.
  • Provide technical expertise and support across multiple sites, large-scale projects, and regional initiatives.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related engineering discipline with a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, OR Master's degree with 5 years of relevant experience, OR PhD with 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering principles, practices, and methodologies.
  • Strong technical expertise with the ability to solve complex engineering and operational challenges.
  • Proven ability to research, analyze, and interpret complex technical information and develop practical solutions.
  • Experience applying advanced engineering theories, techniques, and tools to improve project and operational outcomes.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards, safety practices, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Ability to influence technical strategy and drive improvements across projects, programs, and multiple sites.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor, coach, and develop technical talent.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong collaboration and stakeholder management skills, with experience working closely with site leadership, project teams, and cross-functional partners.
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic and potentially high-pressure environment.
  • Willingness to work in mining, industrial, manufacturing, or plant environments and comply with all safety and PPE requirements.
