Job summary

Brunel is seeking an experienced Project Lead to support a major capital project in mining and heavy industrial sectors, based in Vancouver, Canada. Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive project delivery experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain project execution plans, including contracting strategies, budgets, and resources.

• Oversee contracts and work packages including scope, progress, change, and performance.
• Manage scope change control and analyze cost, schedule, and delivery implications.
• Prepare recommendations and flag risks to the Project Manager.

Introduction

Brunel is seeking an experienced Project Lead to support the delivery of a major capital project within the mining and heavy industrial sector.

Reporting to the Project Manager, the Project Lead will be responsible for delivering an assigned capital project, work package, or defined portion of a larger project. This role holds accountability for the integrated scope, cost, schedule, quality, and overall performance of the assigned work.

The successful candidate will coordinate engineering, procurement, construction, permitting, project controls, and commissioning activities to ensure project milestones are achieved safely and effectively. This position requires a strong project delivery background, excellent coordination skills, and the ability to lead multidisciplinary contributors and contractors within a complex project environment.

Responsibilities

• Champion a strong safety culture by following and promoting all applicable health, safety, environmental, and operational requirements.
• Lead the delivery of assigned work packages or project scope, with accountability for scope, cost, schedule, quality, and performance outcomes.
• Develop and maintain project execution plans, including contracting strategies, schedules, budgets, resource requirements, and delivery priorities.
• Coordinate engineering, procurement, construction management, project controls, permitting, and commissioning activities against integrated project milestones.
• Manage interfaces, dependencies, and deliverables across internal teams, external contractors, consultants, and other project stakeholders.
• Oversee contracts and work packages, including scope development, progress assessment, change management, contractor performance, and claims avoidance.
• Manage the scope change control process and evaluate the cost, schedule, and delivery implications of proposed changes.
• Prepare recommendations and prepare significant changes, risks, or project concerns to the Project Manager.
• Develop, maintain, and manage project risk registers, ensuring risks are identified, assessed, mitigated, and appropriately communicated.
• Monitor project progress and performance against approved budgets and schedules using earned value or equivalent project control methodologies.
• Identify developing trends, performance gaps, and potential delays, and coordinate corrective actions as required.
• Support permitting, regulatory, environmental, and community engagement activities associated with the assigned scope.
• Coordinate constructability reviews, value engineering initiatives, and operational readiness activities.
• Support pre-commissioning, commissioning, turnover, and handover activities, ensuring all requirements are planned and completed.
• Lead and motivate multidisciplinary project contributors, establish clear expectations, and promote accountability across the project team.
• Prepare regular project progress reports covering safety, scope, schedule, cost, risk, change, and key project priorities.
• Support project governance, stage-gate reviews, and the preparation of required project documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Project Management, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience following completion of a bachelor’s degree.
• Demonstrated experience delivering capital projects within mining, natural resources, construction, or heavy industry environments.
• Minimum of three years of civil construction experience.
• Experience working across multiple engineering and project delivery disciplines rather than within a single technical function.
• Demonstrated accountability for the integrated scope, cost, and schedule of a work package, sub-project, or capital project.
• Experience managing contracts and work packages, including scope development, progress measurement, change management, and contractor coordination.
• Strong working knowledge of project controls, including forecasting, progress measurement, cost and schedule tracking, trend management, change control, and reporting.
• Experience coordinating engineering, procurement, construction, permitting, project controls, and commissioning functions against common project milestones.
• Previous experience supporting construction activities at a remote mining or industrial site is preferred.
• Training in project management systems and methodologies.
• A recognized project management designation, such as PMP, is considered an asset.
• Strong understanding of constructability, fit-for-purpose design, value engineering, and operational readiness principles.
• Excellent critical thinking, problem-solving, planning, organization, and decision-making skills.
• Strong leadership and influencing abilities, with the capacity to coordinate and motivate multidisciplinary contributors without relying on direct reporting authority.
• Ability to communicate project status, risks, changes, and delivery concerns clearly and candidly to project leadership.
• Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities across internal functions, consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders.
• Collaborative and adaptable, with experience working effectively within diverse and multidisciplinary teams.
• Results-oriented approach with strong execution planning, logistical coordination, and follow-through.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
