The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Team Lead, Civil Engineer to support our company. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a great team environment at a fast-growing company.

Job Description

1. Assume responsibility for the technical quality of engineering work products prepared by Junior Engineers, including computer models, spreadsheet calculations, design reports, drawings, and site visit assessments.
2. Coordinate with multidisciplinary design teams, geotechnical engineers, and client reviewers as needed.
3. Ensure design conformance to client and company standards.
4. Prepare layouts, conceptual designs, calculations, and illustrations for distribution and transmission civil/structural projects, mainly involving underground structures, structural/dimensional calculations, fieldwork, drawings, material lists, and work instructions.
5. Assist in project support activities such as project coordination, strategic planning, client support, and business analysis to support business development and project management departments.
6. Support documentation processes for projects, including technical specifications, tender documents, technical reports, and project calculations.
7. Interface with other design disciplines, coordinate with stakeholders, and assist team leads and managers.
8. Perform site visits to project locations.

Ideal Candidate

1. A degree in civil engineering from a recognized institution, specializing in Structural Engineering for steel and concrete designs.
2. Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration or eligibility to register with EGBC.
3. Civil engineering design experience in an electrical utility environment is preferred.
4. Knowledge of electrical utility civil standards and power transmission/distribution networks is an asset.
5. Experience with finite element modeling and analysis.
6. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
7. Class 5 driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites and head office as needed.
8. Familiarity with BC Hydro standards and design codes such as ASCE/SEI 48, ASTM A394, CSA standards, IEEE 691, etc.
