Job summary

Stz'uminus Education Society seeks Teachers on call to support JK–12 programs and build relationships with students, families and staff in the Ladysmith community. You will step in when teachers are unavailable, delivering learning that combines Coast Salish teachings with engaging, hands-on activities.

You will collaborate with a dedicated team, participate in professional development, and contribute to assessments and reporting while upholding trauma-informed, culturally responsive practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Education and eligibility for BC Teacher Regulation Branch clearance or criminal record check for working with children and vulnerable persons.
  • Commitment to incorporating Indigenous Coast Salish culture and hul’q’umi’num language in teaching.
  • Ability to manage behaviour and support well-being in challenging situations.
  • Collaborative team player who respects community contributions to education.
  • Appreciation for learning opportunities beyond a traditional classroom setting.
  • Passion for supporting Indigenous students and a Trauma‑informed approach.

Responsibilities

  • Step in to cover classes when the teacher is unavailable, for blocks or extended leaves.
  • Support students with innovative, land-based learning and Coast Salish teachings.
  • Develop relationships with students, families, staff, partners and community members.
  • Collaborate with educators to lead explorations, projects and lessons across SES programs.
  • Participate actively in professional development and school community activities.
  • Conduct and contribute to assessments and learning metrics and reporting.

Weekly schedule: Monday - Friday, 8am – 4pm

Employment type: School contract – September 2026 to June 2027

Position summary

SES is looking for Teachers on call to work with us on our JK – 12 programs, building relationships with students, families and staff in our community.

  • You step in to support our students when their teacher is unavailable, whether for just a block or an extended leave
  • You support students learning with innovative and unconventional learning opportunities, prioritizing land-based learning and integration of Stz'uminus & Coast Salish teachings
  • You continuously develop relationships with your peer educator's administration, students, families, partners & Community members
  • You collaborate with educators throughout SES to enhance and lead explorations, projects, units and lessons
  • You participate with dedication in all aspects of our school community including professional development
  • You conduct & contribute to assessments of and learning, as well as metric and reporting requirements.

  • You are passionate about supporting indigenous students to expand their learning.
