PetroChina Canada (PCC) is recruiting for a Tax Analyst to join the Finance and Accounting Team in Calgary. The role supports Canadian tax compliance, reporting, planning and audits, working with the finance team to ensure taxes are calculated and paid accurately and on time.

The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s in accounting/finance, 2–5 years of Canadian corporate tax experience (oil & gas preferred), CPA or tax designation is an asset, and strong Excel and SAP proficiency.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline.
  • CPA or tax designation is an asset.
  • 2–5 years Canadian corporate tax experience (oil & gas/natural resources).
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian federal and provincial tax principles.
  • Experience with corporate tax compliance, tax provisions and tax research.
  • Knowledge of GST/HST and other Canadian indirect taxes.
  • Strong Excel skills; SAP experience is an asset.

PetroChina Canada is recruiting for a Tax Analyst to join the Finance and AccountingTeam.

Reportingto the Manager of Tax, Treasury and Insurance, the Tax Analyst is responsiblefor supporting the company’s Canadian tax compliance, tax reporting, taxplanning and tax audit activities. This position will work closely with otherswithin the finance team to ensure the company’s tax obligations are accuratelycalculated, reported, and paid in accordance with Canadian federal andprovincial tax legislation. The ideal candidate will be a detail-orientedperson who enjoys working in a dynamic and fast-paced team environment whilebeing able to complete tasks independently.

This is afull-time, in-office position based in the Calgary Head Office.

Accountabilities
  • Prepare and review Canadiancorporate income tax returns, tax schedules, and supporting working papers forCanadian corporations, partnerships, and other entities.
  • Assist with the preparation of tax instalment calculations and monitor tax balances and payment requirements.
  • Prepare and file GST,provincial sales tax, and other applicable indirect tax returns.
  • Reconcile tax accounts andinvestigate and resolve discrepancies between tax filings, general ledgeraccounts, and tax balances.
  • Maintain tax compliancecalendars and ensure filings and payment deadlines are met.
  • Analyze the Canadian taxtreatment of oil and gas exploration, development, production, processing, andtransportation activities.
  • Calculate and maintain taxpools, including Canadian exploration expense (CEE), Canadian developmentexpense (CDE), Canadian oil and gas property expense (COGPE), undepreciatedcapital cost (UCC), and other resource-related tax pools.
  • Assist with the tax treatmentof capital expenditures, abandonment and reclamation costs, explorationexpenditures, and asset acquisitions and dispositions.
  • Assist with the preparation ofour annual income tax provision in accordance with applicable accountingstandards.
  • Prepare tax accountreconciliations and analyze effective tax rate differences.
  • Support the preparation oftax-related financial statement disclosures.
  • Assist with forecasting cashtaxes and assessing the impact of business activities on the company’s taxposition.
  • Identify and explainsignificant variances between forecast, provision, and actual tax amounts.
  • Research Canadian federal andprovincial income tax legislation, CRA administrative positions, and relevantcase law.
  • Analyze the tax implicationsof acquisitions, dispositions, restructurings, financing arrangements, and othercorporate transactions.
  • Identify tax planningopportunities and potential tax risks associated with operational andcommercial activities.
  • Prepare technical taxmemoranda and summaries for management and other internal stakeholders.
  • Monitor changes to Canadiantax legislation and assess their potential impact on the company.
  • Support tax audits andinformation requests from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and provincial taxauthorities.
  • Coordinate responses to the CanadaRevenue Agency and provincial tax audits and reviews.
  • Maintain accurate taxdocumentation and supporting records.
  • Assist with identifying andmanaging tax risks and ensuring appropriate internal controls over taxprocesses.
  • Support the implementation oftax policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Work with external taxadvisors on complex tax matters and compliance requirements.
  • Provide tax guidance onoperational and corporate transactions.
  • Assist with tax-relatedaccounting entries, reconciliations, and reporting.
  • Communicate tax issues andrecommendations clearly to non-tax stakeholders.
Qualifications

  • Strong Excel skills andexperience working with financial and accounting systems; SAP experience is anasset.
