Job description

Skeena Gold + Silver Limited is a Canadian mining company with a portfolio of exploration and development projects located in northwest British Columbia, Canada. Reporting directly to the Environmental Manager, the Tahltan Environmental Coordinator will support environmental compliance at the Eskay Creek Project by conducting compliance inspections, implementing environmental monitoring programs, and assisting with site reporting requirements.

Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  1. Conduct hydrology, groundwater, and in-stream monitoring to assess environmental conditions.
  2. Perform environmental inspections to ensure adherence to permits, licenses, and the company's Environmental Management Plan.
  3. Execute field monitoring and sampling programs as required under existing regulations.
  4. Assist scientific specialists in collecting baseline data and monitoring effects in terrestrial and aquatic field programs.
  5. Complete chain-of-custody documentation and ensure proper processing, packing, and shipping of collected samples.
  6. Maintain detailed and accurate field notes to support data integrity.
  7. Complete Bi-weekly Tahltan Environmental Monitoring reports.
  8. Weave Tahltan Land Values into current monitoring programs.
  9. Collect Vegetation, soils and water quality samples.

Equipment & Data Management:

  1. Calibrate, install, and maintain sampling and monitoring equipment to ensure accurate data collection.
  2. Enter collected field and laboratory data into the environmental database for analysis and reporting.

Compliance & Site Operations Support:

  1. Conduct internal due diligence inspections of various site facilities and operational activities.
  2. Assist with spill prevention initiatives and provide support in spill response situations.
  3. Participate in and support waste and water management programs to ensure environmental sustainability.
  4. Perform other technical field and office tasks to support environmental development and site operations.
  5. Work with local community members to support the understanding and inclusion of Tahltan knowledge in field programs.

Additional Responsibilities:

  1. Promote and sustain a strong safety culture across all levels of the organization.
  2. Perform other duties as reasonably assigned.

The Ideal Candidate

Education / Qualifications:

  1. Occupational and/or wilderness first aid certification is considered a strong asset.
  2. Experience in traditional ecological knowledge and/or archaeological studies is considered a strong asset.
  3. Valid BC Class 5 driver’s license is preferred.

Experience / Skills:

  1. A minimum of 1-4 years of experience, preferably in a mining environment with environmental monitoring experience.
  2. Experience with environmental monitoring and sampling, including stream/lake sampling, benthic/sediment sampling, groundwater sampling, fish sampling, stream flow measurement, vegetation identification, and erosion/sedimentation monitoring.
  3. Experience in environmental or cultural resource protection is an asset.
  4. Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, or a willingness to undergo further training.
  5. Detail oriented with excessive attention to detail.
  6. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  7. Exhibits a high degree of responsibility for confidential matters.
  8. Effective team player who can jump in wherever is needed.
  9. Strong interpersonal and reasoning skills, with proven problem-solving abilities.
  10. Highly self-motivated with the ability to work independently as well as with others.

Work Location & Conditions:

This is a site-based camp job at Eskay Creek Mine site. This position involves working at a remote mine site on a 15 days on/13 days off rotation.

The Eskay Creek Revitalization Project is located within the Coast Mountains of Northwestern British Columbia and Tahltan Territory. Ground transportation will be provided from local communities to the Eskay Creek Site facilities. For those applicants located elsewhere in western Canada, flight transportation from major urban centers will be provided to the Terrace or Smithers airports, from which shuttles will provide transportation to the Eskay Creek Camp facilities. Travel time and expenses are subject to Skeena’s Travel Policy.

There will be exposure to extreme temperatures in all seasons including working outdoors in snow, mud, ice, and water conditions, walking to and from different locations on uneven ground, prolonged periods of standing and physically handling/lifting/moving heavy objects.

Compensation

The expected salary range for this position is CA$70,000 - CA$95,000, in line with the competitive job market for such roles carried out in British Columbia. Salary ranges are guidelines and any job offer received by a candidate will be determined on a number of factors such as relevant education, training, and/or experience.
