Job summary

GardaWorld in Halifax, Nova Scotia is seeking a proactive Security Guard who can read the environment, identify risks, anticipate incidents, and respond effectively. You will patrol and monitor access points, maintain a professional presence, and cooperate with local authorities when needed.

Qualifications

• Valid Advanced First Aid certification or eligibility.
• Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
• Authorized to work in Canada.
• Ability to obtain a valid Security Guard Licence.
• Ability to stand and walk throughout the shift.
• Ability to safely walk over uneven and rough terrain.
• Strong de-escalation and conflict-resolution skills.
• Strong report-writing and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Patrol critical areas and stay alert for suspicious activity.
• Control access to secure areas and verify IDs as required.
• Conduct regular foot patrols throughout the site.
• Respond promptly to security incidents, threats, and alarms.
• Monitor alarms and security systems, including cameras.
• On-site checks following alarm activations or security concerns.
• Document incidents and actions with clear, accurate reports.
• Use de-escalation techniques when dealing with challenging situations.
• Work with law enforcement and emergency services during serious incidents when required.
• Maintain a professional security presence and follow all site procedures and protocols.

What matters most in this role is your ability to read the environment, identify potential risks, anticipate situations, and respond appropriately. Strong observation skills, situational awareness, communication, and interpersonal skills are essential.

As a Tactical Security Guard, physical ability is an important part of the position. You will be active throughout your shift and may be required to conduct regular patrols in a variety of environments, including retail stores, airports, security facilities, and other assigned sites.

• Ability to safely walk over uneven and rough terrain, including gravel trails and open-pit slopes
• Strong de-escalation and conflict-resolution skills
• Strong report-writing and communication skills
