Qualifications

• 1-2 years of security experience is preferred.
• Valid Security License for Nova Scotia is required.
• Certifications in Use of Force and Management of Aggressive Behavior are a plus.

We are currently recruiting for Tactical Healthcare Security Officers for Yarmouth Regional Hospital.

Job Description:

Be a part of a rewarding career that ensures the safety and security within our Healthcare sites. As a Tactical Healthcare Security Officer, you respond to alarms, emergency requests, and use your excellent verbal de-escalation skills to resolve incidents within the Emergency Department. You always maintain confidentiality and discretion when handling private information, and you never forget to smile while providing your incredible customer service.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

• Write reports and investigate routine incidents
• Respond to coded emergencies quickly and efficiently
• Display excellent customer service skills, working with people under stress or in need of medical assistance
• Be physically fit to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods (up to 3-4 hours between breaks)
• Monitor and escalate security concerns within the Emergency Department
• Assist in developing security plans for high-risk patients
• Provide security presence and support throughout the Emergency Department
• Use verbal de-escalation techniques to manage conflicts
• Oversee and support patient watch guards within the Emergency Department
• Work closely with law enforcement and emergency services
• Ensure safety of staff, patients, and visitors
• Assist with patient restraints as required, following SOPs
• Adhere to hospital policies and maintain compliance
• Provide exceptional customer service with a positive attitude
• Prevent theft, violence, and infractions of rules
• Monitor visitors and perform ID checks according to policies
• Respond professionally to emergencies (alarms, medical emergencies, fires, etc.)
• Communicate suspicious activities and concerns to dispatch
• Maintain effective reports on activities and incidents
• Patrol the facility regularly, utilizing PPE, to prevent conflicts

YOU’RE A GREAT FIT IF YOU:

• Have 1-2 years of security experience
• Possess a diploma in Justice Studies or Police Foundations (asset)
• Can obtain a Security License for Nova Scotia
• Hold valid Standard First Aid & CPR - Level C
• Are vaccinated for COVID-19 (two doses)
• Have immunization records for Mumps, Measles, Rubella, Varicella, and TB
• Are fluent in English (oral and written)
• Have previous security, law enforcement, or related experience (preferred)
• Can provide certifications in Use of Force and Management of Aggressive Behavior
• Can opt into Paladin's UoF/MOAB training if lacking certifications (training costs covered, 6-month commitment required)

All Officers must carry a valid Nova Scotia Security License.
