School District 71 (Comox Valley) is seeking a 0.60 FTE Online Learning Modern Languages teacher to deliver Mandarin and Spanish to secondary students. The role combines online instruction with on-site support at a Comox Valley school, using Brightspace, Zoom and Teams to enhance learning.

The candidate should have online teaching experience with strong Mandarin and Spanish fluency, plus familiarity with AFL assessment, LMS management, and course adaptations including IEPs.

Qualifications

• Training, certification and/or direct experience teaching in an online learning environment.
• Oral, written and cultural fluency in Mandarin and Spanish.
• Experience designing and instructing modern languages online at the secondary level.
• Experience delivering modern languages via Rosetta Stone and Brightspace.
• Advanced skills in maintaining an online classroom within an LMS.
• Proficient in AFL assessment methods and documenting for students, parents and staff.
• Experience developing online learning platforms using Brightspace, Zoom and Teams.

• 0.60 FTE Online Learning Modern Languages: Mandarin 10, Intro to Languages 11, Spanish 10 Teacher

• This assignment will end on June 30, 2027 or upon return of the incumbent.

NIDES teachers guide successful learning by providing personalized, online learning courses using diverse instructional technology. NIDES teachers commit to working online and face-to-face with students, colleagues, and parents. Teachers actively research, develop, and maintain advanced online curriculum and support blended instruction in classrooms, learning centers, and through tutorials. They teach students province wide & work on-site at a Comox Valley School.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

• Training, certification and/or direct experience teaching in an online learning (OL) environment
• Oral, written and cultural fluency (mastery level) in Mandarin and Spanish.
• Experience, training and education related to the design and instruction of modern languages within an online learning environment at the secondary school level
• Experience working with the delivery of modern languages through Rosetta Stone and Brightspac
• Advanced skills in maintaining an online classroom in a learning management system
• Advanced skills in supporting assessment for learning (AFL) assessment practices and documentation for students, parents, and educators
• Experience developing and implementing online learning platforms within the modern languages portfolio (Brightspace, Zoom, Teams) to enhance student learning
• Ability to work with and provide tutorial support for students online and in person
• Ability to support students with course adaptations and I.E.P.s
• Background in linguistics preferred
