Job summary

Egis is seeking a senior Systems Engineering Assurance Manager based in Toronto, Canada, to provide independent oversight of systems engineering processes across rail and transit projects.

The role interfaces with Systems Engineering, Safety, V&V, Testing & Commissioning and Project Management, establishing assurance frameworks and managing risks throughout the lifecycle.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Transportation Engineering or related field.
  • P.Eng. designation or active registration.
  • 15+ years of railway industry experience in systems engineering, design, interface management or architecture.
  • Experience delivering complex rail and transit projects.
  • Knowledge of ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288 and EN 50126/28/29/AREMA standards.
  • Experience with requirements management, verification/validation, interface management and systems integration.
  • Experience with compliance management and stakeholder engagement across major infrastructure projects.
  • Strong leadership, communication, team management and mentoring.
  • Strong systems thinking and analytical capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide independent oversight and assurance of systems engineering processes and deliverables throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Lead systems engineering governance activities and ensure compliance with contractual, regulatory, and industry requirements.
  • Develop and maintain systems engineering management plans supporting project delivery objectives.
  • Establish assurance frameworks and implement compliance monitoring processes across project systems activities.
  • Provide assurance that system requirements are complete, traceable, verifiable, and validated.
  • Review and assess requirements management processes and related engineering deliverables.
  • Oversee verification and validation activities and support closure of findings and corrective actions.
  • Ensure subsystem interfaces are identified, documented, coordinated, and effectively managed.
  • Monitor system integration risks and mitigation activities through resolution.
  • Support identification, management, tracking, and closure of technical risks.
  • Liaise with clients, regulators, independent assessors, operators, and project stakeholders on systems assurance matters.
  • Support successful integration, testing, verification, validation, acceptance, and operational readiness activities.

Job Description

The Systems Engineering Assurance Manager is a senior technical leadership role based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, responsible for providing independent oversight and assurance of systems engineering processes and deliverables across complex rail and transit projects. The role leads systems engineering governance activities and ensures project compliance with applicable standards, contractual requirements, and regulatory obligations.

The position acts as the key interface between Systems Engineering, Systems Assurance, Safety, Verification & Validation (V&V), Testing & Commissioning, and Project Management functions. The role establishes assurance frameworks, oversees requirements management, supports integration and interface management activities, monitors technical and integration risks, and provides assurance throughout the system lifecycle from development through verification, validation, testing, and acceptance.

The ideal candidate brings extensive rail industry experience in systems engineering, systems design, requirements management, interface management, and systems architecture within complex transit project environments. A Bachelor's degree and professional engineering designation are required, while a Master's degree is preferred.

Key Responsibilities

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or actively pursuing professional registration.
  • Minimum 15+ years of railway industry experience in systems engineering, systems design, interface management, systems architecture, or related disciplines.
  • Experience delivering complex rail and transit projects.
  • Knowledge of Systems Engineering Lifecycle standards, including ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288.
  • Knowledge of EN 50126, EN 50128, EN 50129, and AREMA standards.
  • Experience in requirements management, verification and validation, interface management, and systems integration.
  • Experience with compliance management and stakeholder engagement across major infrastructure projects.
  • Strong leadership, communication, team management, and mentoring experience.
  • Strong systems thinking and analytical capabilities.

Assets

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in senior systems assurance or engineering management positions supporting rail transit project delivery.
