Job summary

Egis Canada, based in Toronto, is seeking a Systems Engineering Assurance Manager to provide independent oversight of rail and transit systems engineering across complex projects. The role interfaces with safety, V&V, testing and project management to ensure end-to-end assurance.

The ideal candidate brings 15+ years in railway systems engineering, with a Bachelor's degree and professional registration. A Master’s is preferred, and leadership and stakeholder engagement are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Transportation Engineering or related field.
  • P.Eng. designation or active pursuit of registration.
  • Minimum 15+ years of railway industry experience in systems engineering, design, interface management or related disciplines.
  • Experience delivering complex rail and transit projects.
  • Knowledge of Systems Engineering Lifecycle standards ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288.
  • Knowledge of EN 50126, EN 50128, EN 50129 and AREMA standards.
  • Experience with requirements management, verification and validation, interface management, and systems integration.
  • Experience with compliance management and stakeholder engagement across major infrastructure projects.
  • Strong leadership, communication, team management and mentoring experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide independent oversight and assurance of systems engineering processes and deliverables throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Lead systems engineering governance activities and ensure compliance with contractual, regulatory, and industry requirements.
  • Develop and maintain systems engineering management plans supporting project delivery objectives.
  • Establish assurance frameworks and implement compliance monitoring processes across project systems activities.
  • Provide assurance that system requirements are complete, traceable, verifiable, and validated.
  • Review and assess requirements management processes and associated engineering deliverables.
  • Oversee verification and validation activities and support closure of findings and corrective actions.
  • Ensure subsystem interfaces are identified, documented, coordinated, and effectively managed.
  • Monitor system integration risks and mitigation activities through resolution.
  • Support identification, management, tracking, and closure of technical risks.
  • Liaise with clients, regulators, independent assessors, operators, and project stakeholders on systems assurance matters.
  • Support successful integration, testing, verification, validation, acceptance, and operational readiness activities.

About the Role

The Systems Engineering Assurance Manager is a senior technical leadership role based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, responsible for providing independent oversight and assurance of systems engineering processes and deliverables across complex rail and transit projects. The role leads systems engineering governance activities and ensures project compliance with applicable standards, contractual requirements, and regulatory obligations.

The position acts as the key interface between Systems Engineering, Systems Assurance, Safety, Verification & Validation (V&V), Testing & Commissioning, and Project Management functions. The role establishes assurance frameworks, oversees requirements management, supports integration and interface management activities, monitors technical and integration risks, and provides assurance throughout the system lifecycle from development through verification, validation, testing, and acceptance.

The ideal candidate brings extensive rail industry experience in systems engineering, systems design, requirements management, interface management, and systems architecture within complex transit project environments. A Bachelor's degree and professional engineering designation are required, while a Master's degree is preferred.

What do we need from you

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or actively pursuing professional registration.
  • Minimum 15+ years of railway industry experience in systems engineering, systems design, interface management, systems architecture, or related disciplines.
