Job summary

West Shore Parks & Recreation seeks enthusiastic Swim Instructors and Lifeguards to create a safe, enjoyable experience in our aquatic facilities. You will plan and deliver lessons, supervise pool users, and provide excellent customer service for all ages.

This auxiliary, part-time role offers flexible hours including days, evenings, and weekends, with access to counselling and a staff facility pass.

Qualifications

• Current National Lifeguard - Pool Option.
• Current Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor certificate or equivalent.
• Current Bronze Cross.
• Current Standard First Aid with CPR C/AED.
• Demonstrated customer service and positive communication.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

• Plan, teach, and evaluate swimming lessons for all ages.
• Supervise pool users to ensure safety and enjoyment.
• Provide excellent customer service and assist pool users.
• Complete lesson progress cards and basic reports.
• Monitor and replenish supplies and equipment.
• Set up and clean up pool deck and changerooms.
• Provide leadership and first aid during emergencies; liaise with responders.
• Write basic reports and communicate facility needs.

SALARY: $22.83 per hour + 14% in lieu of benefits = $26.02 per hour!

HOURS OF WORK: Variable as needed to meet operational requirements. The ideal candidate will have flexible availability including days, evenings, and weekends.

Position Overview

Are you ready to dive into the exciting world of Aquatics? We're seeking enthusiastic Swim Instructors and Lifeguards dedicated to creating a safe and enjoyable experience in our aquatic facilities. This position is responsible for planning and delivering a variety of aquatic programs to participants of all ages and abilities, and for ensuring the safety of all pool users. Creating a welcoming, positive experience for everyone who uses our facilities is at the heart of what we do.

• In addition to great wages, employees receive access to counselling, and a staff facility pass which provides drop-in use of the weight room, fitness classes, skating, the pool and our 9-hole golf course.

Job Duties & Accountabilities

• Plan, teach, and evaluate swimming lessons for all ages from babies through adults.
• Supervise pool users to ensure the safety, comfort, and enjoyment of all.
• Provide excellent customer service by answering questions and assisting pool users as needed.
• Complete written lesson progress cards and other basic reports accurately and efficiently.
• Monitor and replenish supplies and equipment.
• Perform set up and clean-up of pool deck, monitor and tidy changerooms.
• Provide leadership and first aid treatment during emergencies; liaise with staff, first responders and the public.
• Write basic reports and communicate facility needs to other departments.

Qualifications

• Current National Lifeguard - Pool Option. *
• Current Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor certificate or equivalent (YMCA, or West Shore Swim Instructor) is required. **
• Current Bronze Cross is required. **
• Current Standard First Aid with CPR C/AED is required.
• Demonstrated experience in customer service and dealing with difficult situations in a positive, courteous, and effective manner.
• Demonstrated communication and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work co-operatively both independently and in a team environment
• Water Fit Instructor certification and other relevant certifications are highly desirable.
• Previous volunteer experience with West Shore Parks & Recreation is considered an asset

*Applicants who only have a National Lifeguard certification must complete a Swim Instructor certification within the first 6 months of employment
