Job summary

Ericsson Canada Inc. is seeking a SW Designer/Developer to join the 5G/6G Cloud RAN vDU Baseband function development team in Ottawa.

You will implement 3GPP specifications, design algorithms, and develop embedded real-time software for COTS hardware, while contributing to L2 scheduler features and RRM-related functions. The role requires a strong C/C++ background, Linux experience, and teamwork in an international, multi-site environment.

Qualifications

• BSc or MSc in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering with strong C++ background.
• Familiarity with Linux, Python, MATLAB, Bash, JSON, YAML, XML.
• Experience with 3GPP specs and wireless networks.
• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.

Responsibilities

• Implement 5G and 6G scheduler functions and 3GPP standards related to RRM, MAC, RLC, and PDCP.
• Develop embedded real-time software running on commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware
• Troubleshoot baseband scheduler and L2 stack issues
• Contribute to development of RRM functions, including beamforming, massive MIMO, carrier aggregation, dynamic spectrum sharing, scheduling, link adaptation, and power optimization in L2 scheduler
• Design new algorithms for baseband features, implement them in the product, and support testing in the lab, over the air, and in operators’ networks

What you will do

• Implement and test 5G Cloud RAN baseband features related to the L2 scheduler in a Cloud RAN DevOps environment
• Design new algorithms for baseband features, implement them in the product, and support testing in the lab, over the air, and in operators’ networks

The skills you bring

• BSc or MSc in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering, with a strong background in C++ programming
• Strong proficiency in C/C++, embedded programming, and debugging
• Background in computer networks and wireless communications, with understanding of 3GPP specifications, including Radio Resource Management, MAC/RLC/PDCP/Physical Layer, and mobility
• Familiarity with tools such as Git, Gerrit, Jenkins, GitLab, and Spinnaker
• Experience using LLM-based coding assistants
• Familiarity with Linux, Python, MATLAB, Bash, JSON, YAML, XML, and GPB
• Familiarity with machine learning techniques, such as reinforcement learning, federated learning, transfer learning, and LLMs
• Strong test‑oriented mindset and fast troubleshooting skills
• Experience working in Agile development environments
• Excellent English communication, problem‑solving, interpersonal, time‑management, and multitasking skills
• An enthusiastic attitude, eagerness to learn and grow, and willingness to help teammates learn
• Ability to work in international and multi‑site teams
• Strong sense of ownership, with the ability to go above and beyond to meet customer, project, and deadline expectations

Your Pay

The salary offered is dependent on various factors including, but not limited to, location, and the candidate’s combination of job-related knowledge, qualifications, skills, education, training, and experience.

The salary range for this position is

• Ottawa: $85,000CAD - $111,300CAD

Short-Term Variable Compensation Plan:

Your pay also includes the opportunity for an annual bonus. Actual bonus payouts are based on performance of the business against the unit’s objectives, individual performance, and the individual bonus target. Certain eligibility and pro-ration rules apply.

Your Financial Security

Your Time

Your work-life balance is important to us. New employees are provided a minimum of 18 days of accrued vacation, at least 3personal days, minimum 10 holidays, 1 volunteer day, and sick days. Please note paid time off is pro-rated based on the employee’s start date. Furthermore, Ericsson provides up to 10 weeks of paid maternity leave and 6 weeks of parental or adoption leave at 100% of pay.
