Job summary

Aplin Martin Consultants Ltd. in Surrey, BC, seeks a Geomatics Technologist to lead field surveys across land development and infrastructure projects.

You will supervise survey staff, ensure data quality, and work with a project team to deliver accurate surveys from planning through to construction. The role emphasizes hands-on field work, data processing, and mentorship, with opportunities to apply advanced surveying techniques while collaborating with engineers and planners.

Qualifications

  • Survey Technology Diploma and at least 5, preferably more than 10 years’ experience in survey setting, preferably in Lower Mainland.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with field crews, project managers, clients, and other project stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, with a high level of dependability, initiative, and attention to detail.
  • Strong working knowledge of robotic total stations, conventional survey technologies, and GNSS solutions.
  • Must have demonstrated experience with high-precision monitoring and construction layout, including the ability to work to tight survey tolerances and accurately interpret and apply engineering and construction drawings in the field.
  • Ability to interpret legal survey plans and legal survey evidence
  • Proficient with Leica survey equipment and software, including Captivate and Leica Infinity/GeoCloud
  • A Transport Canada Advanced RPAS (UAV) Pilot Certificate is considered an asset.
  • Experience operating USVs and sonar/bathymetric survey equipment is considered an asset.
  • Experience operating terrestrial laser scanning equipment, such as the Leica RTC360, is considered an asset.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative while also working effectively as part of a survey team.
  • Willingness to undertake occasional overnight and out-of-town work, with the majority of work occurring within the region.
  • Ability to work in a variety of outdoor settings and weather conditions.
  • Physically fit and capable of lifting and carrying survey equipment.
  • A valid BC driver’s license, with excellent driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Project Manager/Land Surveyor to ensure survey procedures are followed and project expectations are met.
  • Perform various types of surveys that may include legal, topographic, right-of-ways, construction layout, as built and engineering surveys.
  • Collect data in the field using data collectors, robotic total stations and GNSS receivers.
  • Prepare clear and accurate field notes and sketches.
  • Ensure collected data is accurate and standard survey procedures have been followed.
  • Maintain survey vehicle and equipment.
  • Work with clients in a professional manner.
  • Perform survey computations in the field.
  • Assist in training and developing new team members.
  • Follow all safety guidelines provided by Aplin & Martin.
  • Complete Field Level Hazard Assessment on a daily basis.
  • Assist the Project Manager with organizing and scheduling for the following days’ field work and coordinating with the Survey Assistant.
  • Clear vegetation and debris in order for measurements to be taken.
  • Upload and download survey data on a daily basis; and,
  • Any other duties as assigned.

Position Overview

TheGeomaticsTechnologistwill work on a wide range of projects from land development and strata/air space work, topographic and rights-of-way surveys, surveysfor infrastructure and capital works projects, construction and monitoring surveys, surveys on First Nation lands and many other diverse types of surveys. TheGeomaticsTechnologistwillworkprimarily in the field under the direction of a Project Managerleadingthe Survey process on sitesandsupervisetheSurvey Assistant.



Duties and Responsibilities

Compensation

Thehourlyrange for this position is$38 to 48 per hour,commensuratewith experience, skillsets, and qualifications.
