Job summary

Aplin Martin is seeking a Field Inspector in Calgary to serve as the Engineer's primary field contact, ensuring construction complies with design and municipal standards. You will review drawings, perform field observations, and prepare inspection reports while coordinating with clients, utilities, and residents.

Key duties include contract administration, progress payments, tender support, and site documentation.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience as a field inspector of civil construction (Earthworks, utilities, surface improvements).
• Registered or qualified to register as a Technician or Technologist with ASET.
• Knowledge of local municipal construction standards and specifications.
• Effective communication skills are critical to this role.
• Strong safety mindset with adherence to Company, Contractor, OH&S standards.

Responsibilities

• Review engineering drawings and documentation for site development and capital works.
• Perform field observations to ensure compliance with standards and contractual obligations.
• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly inspection reports as required.
• Perform ESC inspections and reports as required.
• Review contracts and conduct contract administration during construction and post-construction.
• Review contractor invoicing and prepare monthly progress payments.
• Liaise with clients, municipal staff, contractors, and residents.
• Attend meetings with clients and contractors and record action items for timely closure.
• Assist Project Manager in preparing tenders, cost estimates, and schedules.
• Conduct CCC and FAC inspections, document deficiencies, and ensure rectification.
• Other field-related duties as necessary.

Position Overview

As our Field Inspector, you will serve as the Engineer’s primary field contact, communicating with contractors, franchise utilities, municipal representatives, general public, and our clients. Your primary obligation is to ensure successful implementation of our engineering designs; ensuring construction complies with the design and municipal standards and specifications. In addition, the following responsibilities are required for this role:

Duties and Responsibilities

• Reviewandunderstandingofengineering design drawings andother technical documentationforvarioussite developmentand capital worksprojects.
• Perform fieldobservations to ensure compliance withthestandards andspecificationsas well as other contractual obligations.
• Prepare daily,weekly,and monthly inspection reports as required.
• Perform ESC inspectionsandreports as required.
• Review and understandtheconstructioncontractsandconductcontractadministrationby referring to and enforcing the contractual termsthroughout constructionand post construction.
• Reviewcontractor invoicingand preparemonthly progress payments.
• Liaise with clients, municipal staff,contractors,andresidents(general public).
• Attend meetings with clients, contractors,and municipal staff andmakenotes and recordsfor project documentation and see through the completion of such action items in a timely manner.
• Involvement with the review of draft and final copies of the as-constructed drawings to ensure that the information shown accurately reflects the work performed in the field.
• Assist Project Manager in preparingtenders, costestimates,and project schedules.
• ConductCCC and FAC inspections, prepare applicationsincluding security reductions, and ensure deficiencies are documented and rectified forproject close-out.
• Otherfield-relatedduties,as necessary.

Skills andQualifications

• A minimumof3 years’ experienceas afieldinspectorof civil construction(Earthworks, utilities,andsurface improvements and other related infrastructure)
• Registered or qualified to register as a TechnicianorTechnologist withASETisan asset.
• Possess knowledge oflocalmunicipal construction standards and specifications.
• Effective communicationskillsarecriticalto this role.
• Strong safety mindsetwithadherence toCompany, Contractor,&OH&Sstandards®regulations.
• Professional, positiveattitude.
• Ability toproblem-solvefirst, in a time-sensitive environment.
• Ability to work on several projects or issues simultaneously.
• Ability to manage time effectively and meet firm deadlines.
• Must have valid Provincial Driver’s License with clean drivers abstract.
• Knowledge of computer hardware and software programs,includingMicrosoft Office, etc.
