Job summary

Aplin Martin Consultants Ltd. is seeking a Field Inspector for an ~18‑month contracted role based out of Lytton, BC.

You will support an active project by performing field reviews, preparing inspection reports, and assisting with engineering design implementation under supervision from Project Managers and Senior Design Staff. Accommodation and basic utilities are provided for the assignment, with mileage reimbursement and a weekly travel allowance between Lytton and the Lower Mainland for those

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in civil construction preferred.
  • Experience with MMCD contracts is an asset.
  • Experience working with First Nations communities and organizations.
  • Registered or eligible to register as a Technician or Technologist with ASTTBC is an asset.
  • Knowledge of local municipal construction standards and specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Review municipal design drawings and correspondence for land development and capital works.
  • Perform field inspections for compliance with standards.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly inspection reports as required.
  • Prepare monthly progress payments and Letter of Credit reductions as required.
  • Liaise with clients, municipal staff, contractors, and local residents.
  • Undertake general construction administration in a timely manner.
  • Attend meetings with clients, contractors and municipal staff and document outcomes.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the scope of work on engineering drawings.
  • Understand obligations under Unit Price Contracts and client expectations.
  • Provide timely responses to internal and external parties to ensure completion of works.
  • Review draft/final as-constructed drawings to reflect field work.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The Opportunity

The Field Inspector position is a contracted role of approximately 18 months, and will be based out of Lytton, British Columbia, where the successful candidate will support an active project in the area. Responsibilities will include performing field reviews, preparing inspection reports, and carrying out other routine inspection-related duties. Working closely with members of our engineering department, you will receive guidance and direction from assigned Project Managers and Senior Design Staff. Under this direction, the role will assist with implementing engineering designs, verifying compliance with applicable municipal standards and specifications, coordinating with Municipal staff and Contractors as required, and supporting construction administration activities.

In this role, accommodation will be provided for the duration of the assignment, including basic utilities and meals. Mileage reimbursement is provided, including a weekly travel allowance between Lytton and the Lower Mainland for candidates who reside in the Lower Mainland.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Review of municipal engineering design drawings and correspondence for various land development projects and capital works improvements.
  • Perform field inspections for compliance with standards and approvedpractice.
  • Prepare daily,weeklyand monthly inspection reports asrequired.
  • Prepare monthly progress payments and Letter of Credit reductionasrequired.
  • Liaise with clients, municipal staff, contractors, and thelocal residents(general public).
  • Undertake general construction administration in a consistent, reliable, andtimelymanner.
  • Attend meetings with clients, contractors and municipal staff and make notes and records of the outcomes of these meetings for project record purposes.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the scope of work outlined onthe engineeringdrawings.
  • Understand obligations of the parties underUnit Price Contracts as well as the expectations of the contractor according to the Company’s standard contract document.
  • Providetimelyresponses to all internal and external parties as needed to ensure completion of theworks.
  • Involvement with the review of draft and final copies of the as-constructed drawings to ensure that the information shown accurately reflects the work performed in the field.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experienceworking in acivil construction environment is preferred.
  • Experience working with MMCDcontractsan asset.
  • Experience working with First Nations communities and organizations.
  • Registered or qualified to register as aTechnicianor Technologist with ASTTBC is an asset.
  • Possess knowledge of local municipal construction standards and specifications.
  • Good oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Professional, positiveattitudeand problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work on several projects or issues simultaneously.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and meet firm deadlines.
  • Must have valid Provincial Driver’s License with clean drivers abstract.
  • Possess limited knowledge of the construction administration process.
  • Knowledge of computer hardware and software programs, which may include Microsoft Office, Internet applications, and other job-related programs.
Compensation

Thehourlyrange for this position is$35-50/hr,commensuratewith experience, skillsets, and qualifications.
