Job summary

GeoVerra's Geomatics team in Thunder Bay and North Bay, Ontario, is seeking a Pipeline Integrity Survey Crew Chief to lead field crews, conduct integrity inspections and data collection, and coordinate with Project Managers. The role requires travel and outdoor work, with a strong emphasis on safety and documentation.

You will bring a diploma in surveying/geomatics or civil engineering, solid knowledge of GPS/Total Stations, experience with Trimble equipment, and the ability to mentor survey

Qualifications

• Diploma/Degree in surveying, geomatics or civil engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Strong knowledge of survey equipment and software such as GPS and Total Stations (Including Robotic).
• Experience of Trimble equipment and software, laser scanning and line locating considered an asset.
• Knowledge of integrity management practices, inspections techniques, and regulatory requirements.
• Strong problem-solving skills in a field environment.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills with the capacity to produce accurate and legible field notes.
• The ability to develop and motivate survey staff and work well in a team environment.
• An aptitude for delivering projects on time and budget.
• A valid driver’s license and can provide a clean driver’s abstract.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee field crews in performing inspections, assessments, and data collection related to asset integrity.
• Liaise with Project Managers to coordinate field survey work, review and manage project budgets, schedules, priorities, and survey methodology.
• Conduct integrity inspections on pipelines, structures or other assets as required.
• Liaise with client field representatives and landowners and be a brand ambassador for GeoVerra.
• Prepare field notes, sketches, checklists, and digital data in required formats for different audiences.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation of inspection findings and field activities.
• Provide guidance, training and mentorship to Survey Assistants.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of industry best practices, efficient field processes and procedures and the innovative use of new technology.
• Proactively participate in and support the GeoVerra safety program.
• Complete office technical survey tasks as required and other duties as assigned.

• Strong working knowledge of survey equipment and software such as GPS and Total Stations (Including Robotic).
• Experience of Trimble equipment and software, laser scanning and line locating considered an asset.
• Knowledge of integrity management practices, inspections techniques, and regulatory requirements.
• Strong problem-solving skills in a field environment.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills with the capacity to produce accurate and legible field notes.
• The ability to develop and motivate survey staff and work well in a team environment.
• An aptitude for delivering projects on time and budget.
• A valid driver’s license and can provide a clean driver’s abstract; and
• Successful completion of pre-employment drug and alcohol screening as per the limits provided in the Canadian Model for Providing a Safe Workplace

Job Conditions:

• Out of town work (including shift work) and frequent travel required.
• Ability to carry, lift and push up to 50lbs on a regular basis.
• Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
