Job summary

TULLOCH is seeking a Survey Crew Chief in Timmins, Ontario, to support mining, construction, and infrastructure projects in Northern Ontario. The role reports to the Project Manager, Geomatics, and involves boundary retracement, topographic surveys, and 3D laser scanning.

The position is a new 4-month contract with a wage range of $30.00 - $36.00 hourly. Travel up to 75% of hours may be required, with opportunities to work across Canada.

Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of practical related work experience.
  • Proficient in setting up, operating, and troubleshooting survey equipment (conventional and GPS).
  • Familiar with static control surveys, high-precision layout, and 1st order leveling techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Assess field and documentary evidence to perform boundary surveys.
  • Perform pre-engineering and topographic surveys.
  • Read and decipher design documents for basic layout calculations.
  • Conduct high-precision surveys including deformation monitoring and static control networks.
  • Perform construction layout for anchors, grid lines, formwork, and footings.
  • Collect field data using survey instruments and GPS equipment.
  • Oversee data QC, ensure field notes and downloads are complete.
  • Collect terrestrial scanning and UAV data.
  • Interact with clients onsite.
  • Maintain health and safety compliance.
  • Mentor and train new field staff.

Based in Timmins, the Survey Crew Chief will report to the Project Manager, Geomatics, and will have a wide range of duties which ultimately focus on supporting mining, construction, and infrastructure development in Northern Ontario. You will be part of a team that provides a full range of surveying services including boundary retracement, construction layout, monitoring, and high-definition 3D laser scanning. This position is a new, 4-month contract with a wage range of $30.00 - $36.00 hourly.


What You’ll Do:

The Survey Crew Chief will be part of the TULLOCH Geomatics team. You will:



  • Assess field and documentary evidence to perform boundary surveys

  • Perform pre-engineering, topographic surveys

  • Read and decipher design documents for basic layout calculations

  • Perform high-precision surveys such as industrial layout, deformation monitoring, levelling, and static control network surveys

  • Perform construction layout for anchor bolt locations, grid lines, formwork, concrete piers, and footings

  • Collect field data using traditional survey instruments such as total station and high precision levels as well as GPS field equipment

  • Oversee QC of data collection ensuring that field notes and daily downloads are complete

  • Collect terrestrial scanning and UAV data

  • Interact with clients while onsite

  • Maintain safe workplace operations in compliance with our health and safety policies and procedures

  • Mentor and train new field staff

Who You Are:


  • You have at least three (3) years of practical related work experience

  • You are proficient in setting up, operating, and troubleshooting conventional and GPS survey equipment or similar

  • You are familiar with static control surveys, high-precision layout work, and 1st order levelling techniques (or are willing and able to learn)

  • You have knowledge of Ontario survey evidence and the Acts, Standards, and Regulations as they relate to performing cadastral surveys

  • You are willing to travel consistently for site inspections and fieldwork, including outside of the Timmins area. This role requires frequent travel, up to 75% of hours worked.

  • You are proficient in the operation of ATVs/UTVs/snowmobiles

  • You exercise independent judgment within defined parameters and in alignment with business objectives

  • You can pivot and alter approach or recommendations to accomplish desired results
