Based in Calgary, the Survey Crew Chief (Technologist) will report to the Project Manager and will have a wide range of duties which ultimately focus on supporting construction and infrastructure development throughout Western Canada. You will be part of a team that is involved in pre-engineering surveys, construction surveys and monitoring, precision layout, and high-definition 3D laser scanning.

What You’ll Do:

The Survey Crew Chief (Technologist) will be part of the Geomatics Alberta team. You will:

  1. Assess field and documentary evidence to perform cadastral surveys including Right of Way plans, Condominium Surveys, and Plans of Subdivision
  2. Perform pre-engineering, topographic surveys while overseeing field activities
  3. Oversee construction layout for multi-family mixed residential and commercial developments, renewable energy, and transportation infrastructure projects
  4. Perform deformation monitoring surveys for the detection of displacement related to site and/or linear project development
  5. Collect field data using various survey instruments and GPS field equipment while overseeing QC of data collection, ensuring that field notes and daily downloads are complete
  6. Collect terrestrial and mobile mapping data (or have the aptitude and willingness to learn this)
  7. Undertake line locating of buried utilities within an Oil and Gas site or in a greenfield environment
  8. On occasion, support our TULLOCH Engineering division by performing non-survey related construction management and both civil and structural engineering tasks under the direction of the project engineer

Who You Are:
  1. You have at least 5 years practical experience working in a related role
  2. You are willing to travel for site inspections and fieldwork
  3. You are proficient in the operation of ATVs, UTVs, and snowmobiles
  4. You make decisions and exercise independent judgment within defined parameters and in alignment with business objectives
  5. You are trusted with the freedom to work independently while contributing to overall team success
What You Should Bring:

The ideal candidate will at minimum have a college diploma in Geomatics, Engineering Technology, or a related program. Additionally, you should have:

  1. Knowledge of Alberta survey evidence assessment, Act, Standards, and Regulations as they relate to performing cadastral surveys
  2. An Advanced UAV pilot's licence would be considered an asset
  3. Unwavering commitment to health and safety in the workplace environment
  4. High motivation with results-oriented focus
  5. Superior organizational and multi-tasking skills
  6. Strong interpersonal and critical thinking skills
  7. Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
  8. Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  9. Valid, full driver’s licence
