Job description

Position: Surgical Care Nurse

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient and staff safety is a priority and a shared responsibility. Continuous improvement in quality and safety is inherent in this position.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team, the Surgical Care Nurse functions as an experienced, self-directed nurse by assessing, planning, providing, and evaluating nursing care for assigned patients.

Qualifications: Education, Training, and Experience

• Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant;
• Post-basic education in surgical/ambulatory care nursing on a unit-specific basis; or
• An equivalent combination of education and training;
• Up to two (2) years of recent, related experience on a unit-specific basis;
• Basic Life Support, Level C.

• Apply nursing process as required and as described in BC College of Nurses and Midwives Standards of Nursing Practice;
• Demonstrate sound organizational, problem-solving, and teaching skills;
