Job summary

Waterhen Lake First Nation is seeking a Support Children & Youth Resilience Coordinator to design and deliver holistic, culturally grounded youth programs within the community.

The role focuses on prevention, resilience building, and positive development, reporting to the CFS Program Manager. Requires experience in First Nations contexts and strong facilitation and engagement skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level or equivalent in Recreation Management, Indigenous Studies, Social Work, Education or related field.
• Experience planning and delivering youth-focused programs, preferably in First Nations communities.
• Strong understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions and land-based practices.
• Knowledge of intergenerational trauma and cultural connection in healing and resilience building.
• Excellent communication and community engagement skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop, coordinate and implement cultural, sports, recreational, and land-based activities for children and youth.
• Promote active participation and engagement to foster resilience and leadership.
• Collaborate with Elders and Knowledge Keepers to incorporate traditional knowledge into programming.
• Facilitate access to regional youth events, tournaments, and leadership conferences.
• Build partnerships with local organizations and schools to enhance opportunities.

Waterhen Lake First Nation is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated SCYR Coordinator to lead the design and delivery of holistic, culturally grounded, and engaging cultural, sports, and recreation activities for children and youth in the community. This role supports the emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual well-being of children and youth, with a strong focus on prevention, resilience building, and positive development. The position reports directly to the Waterhen Lake First Nation CFS Program Manager.

Responsibilities:

• Develop, coordinate, and implement a variety of cultural, sports, recreational, and land-based activities for children and youth, ensuring alignment with community values and traditions.
• Promote active participation and engagement of children and youth in programs that foster resilience, leadership, teamwork, and healthy lifestyles.
• Collaborate with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community members to incorporate traditional knowledge, language, and teachings into programming.
• Facilitate access to regional and provincial youth events, sports tournaments, cultural gatherings, and leadership conferences.
• Build partnerships with local organizations, schools, and service providers to enhance programming opportunities.

Knowledge and Experience:

• Certificate, Diploma and/or degree in Recreation Management, Indigenous Studies, Social Work, Education, Youth Worker, or a related field.
• Experience in planning and delivering youth-focused programs, preferably in First Nations communities.
• Strong understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and land-based practices.
• Familiarity with the impacts of intergenerational trauma and the importance of cultural connection in healing and resilience building.
• Excellent communication, community engagement, and facilitation skills.
• Valid Class 5 Drivers License & reliable transportation.
• Knowledge of Waterhen Lake First Nation community resources, culture & services is an asset
