Job summary

Powell River Educational Services Society in Powell River is seeking a casual Community House Support Worker to help at Lift. The role focuses on welcoming people, linking them to programs, nutritious food, and social connection in the qathet region.

You will support daily operations, engage participants with trauma-informed and culturally safe interactions, and report to the Community Resources Manager. Some evenings or weekends may be required.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 plus one year of recent related experience in community and family services.
• Experience supporting individuals and families experiencing barriers to participation.
• Knowledge of qathet region resources and referral processes.
• Basic computer skills.
• Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check clearance.
• Training in trauma-informed practice, harm reduction, or non-violent communication preferred.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to welcoming, inclusive environment at The Community House.
• Provide access to programs, information, nutritious food, and social connection.
• Assist with daily operations, engage participants, and strengthen community belonging with trauma-informed interactions.
• Report to: Community Resources Manager.

• Working Condition and Physical Requirements

Work is primarily based at the Community House.

• The role involves periods of standing, light lifting, and basic facility upkeep.
• May occasionally involve outdoor programming, evening, or weekend work.
• Interactions may include individuals experiencing distress or sharing sensitive personal experiences; the ability to respond with calm, respect, and professionalism is essential.
