Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, supply chain management, law or related field.
  • Progressive experience in operations, category management and strategic sourcing (10–15 years).
  • Strong ability to influence across departments and external vendors.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute sourcing strategies aligned with objectives to optimize contract outcomes and mitigate risk.
  • Lead contract negotiation and lifecycle management in line with commercial objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct market research and supplier analysis to evaluate capabilities and pricing structures across key portfolios.
  • Manage supplier relationships to enhance performance and drive value through contract governance.
  • Leverage data analytics and spend analysis to inform decisions and improve cost management.
  • Communicate complex commercial concepts clearly to stakeholders to align on sourcing strategies.
  • Drive continuous improvement by analyzing market trends and advancing supply chain practices.

Make your mark as you grow your career! As a Supply Management Professional (Category Management), you will develop and execute strategies that drive value across a diverse portfolio of Canadian Natural business units in Western Canada specialized in operations. Using market intelligence and spending insights, you will optimize sourcing decisions, manage risk, and strengthen supplier performance. You will be enterprising and entrepreneurial in driving procurement strategies while advancing your strategic sourcing and contract management expertise

Key Accountabilities
  • Develop and execute sourcing strategies aligned with business objectives, applying forward-looking thinking and commercial acumen to optimize contract outcomes and mitigate risk
  • Lead contract negotiation and lifecycle management, ensuring alignment with commercial objectives, regulatory requirements, Canadian contract law, and evolving market conditions
  • Conduct market research and supplier analysis to evaluate capabilities, assess pricing structures, and identify opportunities across key commodity portfolios, including chemicals and related categories
  • Manage supplier and contractor relationships to enhance performance, foster collaboration, and drive continuous value creation through effective contract governance
  • Leverage data analytics, spend analysis, and benchmarking to generate actionable insights, enabling informed decision-making and improved cost management
  • Communicate complex commercial concepts clearly through impactful presentations, influencing stakeholders and supporting alignment on sourcing strategies
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by analyzing market trends, identifying process enhancements, and advancing innovative supply chain practices
What You Bring To The Role
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, supply chain management, law, or a related field from a recognized university
  • Minimum of 10 - 15 years of progressive experience in operations, category management and strategic sourcing
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate and develop strategies without prompting from the business unit
  • Demonstrated ability to influence business units and others
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and with external vendors
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP), Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) are considered an asset
