Job summary

Canadian Natural Resources Limited in Calgary seeks a Lead, Supply Management for Conventional and Thermal Operations and Facilities. You will lead strategic sourcing, contract management, and supplier relationships to ensure cost efficiency and operational continuity.

The role requires 10+ years in the industry, 8+ years in contract management, and 5+ years in leadership. You will coach a team, oversee full contract lifecycle, and partner with Legal, Risk, Finance, and Operations.

As a Lead, Supply Management for Conventional and Thermal Operations and Facilities, your work and accomplishments will contribute to the overall success of our Canadian Natural’s production and upgrading operation. You will utilize your strong relationship building skills to maintain an excellent level of customer service and professionalism. Key Accountabilities:
  • Strategic Leadership & Vision
    • Champion and communicate Canadian Natural’s Supply Management vision, mission, and long‑term strategic direction—ensuring your team understands how their work contributes to enterprise success
    • Lead the development and execution of multi‑year supply and contracting strategies that optimize cost, mitigate risk, and enhance operational continuity and projects execution
    • Identify emerging business needs, market conditions, and organizational priorities to proactively adjust strategies and resource planning.
    • Drive continuous improvement through process optimization, technology adoption, and innovative contracting approaches
  • Inspire, coach, and develop a team of Supply Management professionals, fostering a culture of growth, accountability, and high performance
  • Build talent strength by identifying skill gaps, creating development plans, and preparing team members for future roles
  • Lead performance management with a growth mindset, setting clear expectations, providing ongoing feedback, and supporting career progression
  • Champion an inclusive, safe, and collaborative team environment where diverse perspectives are valued, and conflict is resolved constructively
  • Support hiring, onboarding, and succession planning to ensure robust capability and continuity within the organization
  • Operational Excellence
    • Align team workloads, priorities, and processes to ensure efficient operations and consistent delivery of high‑quality contracting and supply services
    • Oversee execution of the full contract lifecycle — from requirements gathering and RFP issuance to negotiation, execution, and administration
    • Partner closely with cross‑functional stakeholders such as Legal, Risk, Finance, Accounting, and Operational leaders to ensure compliance with organizational standards and policies
    • Provide senior‑level guidance on complex contract issues, commercial considerations, and risk mitigation strategies
    • Maintain exceptional customer service by building strong, trust‑based relationships with Operational Vice Presidents, Managers, and internal clients
What You Bring to the Role:
  • 10+ years of related industry experience with 8+ years in contract management (Requisition, RFP, Bid Analysis, T&C’s negotiation, contract execution, contract administration)
  • 5+ years in a leadership role with post-secondary education
  • Strong organization skills and the ability to multitask on several projects simultaneously
  • Knowledge of negotiation best practices, both in-person and in written form
  • Outstanding analytical skills to make effective decisions
  • Drive and accountability to execute timely agreement
  • Superior customer service with an ability to work cohesively with Operational Vice President and Managers to support client needsand concerns
  • Legal knowledge, understanding of contract law, being able to discuss the agreements and their ramifications with legal professionals
