Job summary

Canadian Natural Resources Limited is seeking a Supply Management Professional to lead end-to-end sourcing and contracting for Oil Sands operations. The role drives supplier relations, contract strategy, and risk management across Canada, enabling value delivery and compliant execution.

The successful candidate will bring 5–10 years in energy sector procurement, strong negotiation skills, and a track record of negotiating complex contracts up to CAD 50 MM.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field from a recognized university.
  • 5–10 years of progressive sourcing and contracting experience in the energy sector or a related industry.
  • Proven expertise drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex contracts up to CAD 50 MM.
  • Bold, entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to challenge the status quo and drive innovative sourcing solutions.
  • CSCP or CPSM certifications are assets.

Responsibilities

  • Lead strategic sourcing initiatives and end-to-end procurement to maximize value while managing risk.
  • Clarify requirements early, challenge assumptions, and deliver high-quality sourcing solutions.
  • Represent Canadian Natural as a trusted commercial partner in supplier engagements.
  • Integrate data-driven analysis and market intelligence to generate strategic insights and value opportunities.
  • Develop executive-level communications distilling complex information into clear recommendations
  • Lead end-to-end contract formation and administration to maximize value and minimize risk
  • Provide leadership in supplier and contractor relationship management and resolve complex commercial disputes
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Lead strategic sourcing initiatives, taking full ownership of the end-to-end to secure goods and services at maximum value while effectively managing risk and aligning outcomes with business objectives through strong cross-functional stakeholder collaboration
  • Anticipate business needs by clarifying requirements early, challenging assumptions and the status quo, and delivering high-quality, end-to-end sourcing solutions through effective stakeholder management
  • Represent Canadian Natural as a trusted commercial partner in all supplier and stakeholder engagements, strengthening relationships and upholding the company’s reputation and values.
  • Integrate data-driven analysis and market intelligence - including supply/demand dynamics, supplier capabilities, life-cycle total cost of ownership, to generate strategic insights, identify value opportunities, enable informed decision-making, and safeguard the organization’s interest
  • Executive Business Writing: Develop high-quality, executive-level communications that distill complex commercial, legal, and operational information into clear insight and strategic recommendations for senior stakeholders
  • Contract Formation and Administration: Lead the end-to-end contract formation and administration process, delivering clear, fit-for-purpose agreements that maximize value, mitigate risk, and align with organizational objectives and standards
  • Provide leadership in supplier and contractor relationship management, driving performance and contract compliance while strategically resolving complex claims and commercial disputes to protect organizational value and operational integrity
  • Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives

What You Bring to the Role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Law, or a related field from a recognized university
  • Minimum of 5 - 10 years of progressive experience in sourcing and contracting experience within the energy sector or a related industry
  • Proven expertise in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex contracts up to $50 MM, with strong knowledge of contract law and industry regulations applicable to the Canadian energy market
  • Bold, entrepreneurial mindset, with the ability to challenge the status quo, identify opportunities, and drive innovative, value-focused sourcing solutions
  • Ability to analyze macroeconomic market trends – including commodity price volatility, inflation, currency fluctuations and suppler financial health – and translate insights into strategic, value-driven actions
  • Experience managing Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) program, establishing KPIs, driving performance, identifying continuous improvement initiatives, and unlocking value opportunities
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) or Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) are considered an asset
