Position: Supply Chain Freight Project Lead (12 Month Contract)
Job Overview:
Functioning with minimal oversight, this role takes ownership and responsibility for leading the Freight Optimization Project to increase the Longo’s pickup network.
Accountabilities:
Supplier Negotiations
- Facilitate negotiations with suppliers to establish competitive rates and services agreements.
- Develop long-term partnerships with logistics providers to enhance service reliability and efficiency.
Inbound Network Optimization & Cost Management
- Analyse existing inbound freight operations to identify gaps and improvement opportunities.
- Implement tactics to expand the pickup network geographically and capacity-wise.
- Collaborate with suppliers to improve compliance with pickup schedules and reduce delays.
- Monitor freight costs and identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising service quality.
- Conduct benchmarking studies to ensure the company’s rates are competitive in the market.
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with Supply Chain, Warehouse logistics and Merch teams to align freight activities with business needs.
- Act as liaison between suppliers and internal stakeholders to ensure smooth communication and operations.
- Leverage Sobeys freight synergies by working closely with Sobeys Director of Transportation
Knowledge, Skills & Competencies:
- Post Secondary Degree or Diploma
- Excellent communication Skills
- Negotiation Skills and working knowledge of transportation concepts
- Proficient in Excel and other Microsoft Suite programs is required.
- 1-3 years Retail experience is an asset.
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in a standard office environment with participation in meetings
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a changing retail landscape with deadlines
