Position Overview
Reporting to the Manager, Assets and Compliance, this position is responsible for technical support for all aspects of the safe and reliable operation of the power system; including system outage analysis/studies, the SCADA system and compliance with NERC (North American Electric Reliability Corporation) reliability standards. The Supervisor, Operations Support and Compliance is a key member of the SCC Management team and is expected to provide support for the Operations Manager, SCC who directly supports the day to day operations of Generation, Transmission and Distribution desks, including outage scheduling and personnel scheduling.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for ensuring compliance with Corporate Policy, Procedures and BC Mandatory Reliability Standards (MRS) related to System Operations and Training.
- Required to optimize crew output through effective training, work planning and Operator scheduling.
- Thorough knowledge of system safety and lockout, and responsible for supporting application and training of the FortisBC System Safety and Lockout Program.
- Schedule and coordinate the required training instruction, documentation and tracking to maintain required CEH hours and NERC Certification for Operating Personnel.
- Analyze and develop technical training to meet departmental training requirements meeting reliability standards and procedures.
- Continuously update operational and training materials to reflect changes in standards, policies, processes, structure and principles
- Provide technical support to SCC Operations and provide relief and support during emergencies as required.
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s Degree, plus a minimum of 4-7 years directly related work experience in operations compliance measures and standards, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. A Professional Engineer Designation (PENG) and strong knowledge of NERC policies and procedures would be considered assets.

- Demonstrated ability to attend to emergencies and co-ordinate activities under stressful situations
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage projects/programs and related costs
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and demanding work schedules
- Demonstrated ability to apply conflict resolution skills
- Computer skills and application software tools including SCADA or other similar supervisory control systems
- Proficient with the use of personal computers including spreadsheets, databases, word processing and presentation applications.
- Demonstrated knowledge of safety regulations, policies and procedures
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Excellent presentation, written and verbal communication skills
