The Opportunity

The Legislative and Court Services Department is comprised of three branches; Legislative Services (which includes Council Secretariat, Corporate Mail and Print Services, Vital Statistics and Access and Privacy Services), Court Services (which is responsible for the administration of justice within two court service areas in compliance with the Provincial Offences Act, the Memorandum of Understanding and Inter-municipal Service Agreements) and Enforcement Services, which is responsible for administering and enforcing several municipal by-laws including but not limited to regulations related to the parking of vehicles, pet controls, property maintenance, business licensing, and sign placement.

The Finance Department provides financial leadership, advice and support to the Corporation and assists with the delivery of Council’s Strategic plan through its four essential services: accounting services, corporate finance, procurement and revenue management. The department's main deliverables include the audited financial statements, coordinating the annual business plan and budget, treasury and debt management, procurement administration and support, property tax revenue management, and water and wastewater revenue management.

Under the general guidance and direction of the Director of Legislative and Court Services the Supervisor of Administrative Support Services position is responsible for coordinating the daily operational functions of the Legislative and Court Services Department and the Finance Department. Specifically, this position provides confidential and non-confidential support for the Director of Legislative and Court Services, Director of Finance and Departmental Management staff. Additionally, this position assists in planning, coordinating and organizing activities related to Municipal Elections and By-elections. Lastly, this position provides support for various City Council Committees. Overall, this position plays an integral role in providing support to the Legislative and Court Services Department and Finance Department to enable the comprehensive delivery of services for the City of Barrie.

Education (degree/diploma/certifications)

  • Two (2) year College Diploma in Public Administration, Business Administration, Office Administration or related discipline
  • Eligibility for and willingness to obtain Municipal Administration Program (MAP) from the Association of Municipal Managers, Clerks and Treasurers of Ontario (AMCTO) acquired upon hire

Experience

  • Three (3) years of experience performing duties related to the above mentioned major responsibilities, including demonstrated leadership/supervisory experience and demonstrated experience working with senior/executive level officials and/or elected/appointed officials.

Location: City Hall, 70 Collier Street, Barrie, Ontario*

*Please note that the City has a Hybrid Work Program Policy in place that may allow for a hybrid work arrangement for employees who meet eligibility requirements.

Hours: The normal hours of work are 35 hours per week; however, some non-standard hours may apply.

Wage: This a permanent full-time non-union position with the following pay level and 2025 pay range:

  • Pay Level: Level 11
  • Yearly Salary: $80,159.82 to $107,431.84
  • Hourly Pay Rate: $44.04 to $59.03
