Position Summary & Responsibilities
- Monitor, support, and troubleshoot the operation of utilities including compressed air, chilled water, plant steam, purified water, WFI, and clean steam.
- Handle troubleshooting and response to HVAC system issues, coordinating with maintenance and external vendors as needed.
- Perform preventive maintenance on GMP and non-GMP equipment such as clean in place systems, water systems, boilers, HVAC, pumps, process tanks, autoclaves, depyrogenation ovens, and chromatography equipment.
- Conduct daily operational checks, maintenance, repairs, inspections, cleaning, and testing of equipment.
- Respond to system failures, alarms, and abnormal conditions with appropriate corrective actions.
- Maintain a presence on the floor to quickly identify and address facility or equipment issues.
- Coordinate shift handovers and issue tracking with other supervisors.
- Ensure compliance with GMP, safety, and regulatory standards during operations and repairs.
- Document facility issues and corrective actions accurately in relevant systems.
- Support scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities to minimize downtime.
- Collaborate with production and maintenance teams for operational continuity.
- Assist the Compliance Coordinator in managing Deviations, Change Requests, CAPAs, training compliance, and SOP revisions.
- Recommend improvements for system reliability and efficiency.
- Maintain a clean, safe work environment following SOPs, GMP, and safety guidelines.
- Accurately document work performed on work orders.
- Assess work impact, communicate, and supervise major repairs to minimize service interruptions.
- Inspect third-party repairs for compliance and quality.
- Follow safety protocols, perform risk assessments, and support a safe working environment.
- Manage multiple priorities and work flexible schedules, including shift work and weekends.
Perform any other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with plant utilities and HVAC systems.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently during off-hours with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency in reading drawings, P&IDs, and working with technical software like BAS and CMMS, as well as Microsoft Office.
- Experience with preventive maintenance, equipment repair, and troubleshooting.
- Positive attitude and flexibility to handle demanding situations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or College Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or related fields.
- 5-10 years of hands-on experience with process equipment and building services, preferably in biotech, pharma, or consumer goods industries with GMP knowledge.
- Experience generating GMP traceable documentation.
- Experience with processing, filling, and packaging equipment.
- GMP environment experience.
- Industrial Millwright (433A) license and/or Electrician (442A) license considered an asset.
Additional Conditions
- Pre-employment medical including eye exam, respirator fit test, and pulmonary function test.
- Hepatitis A and B vaccination required.
- Gown qualification for sterile operations in Class A/B clean rooms.
- Shift work including weekends and occasional extended shifts.
