The Supervisor, Health and Safety is essential in promoting a safe working environment, reporting directly to the Manager, People, Culture, and Health, Safety and Environment. This role involves implementing health and safety policies, ensuring regulatory compliance, and fostering a culture of safety among employees. The supervisor will initially oversee one direct report and collaborate with various departments to identify hazards, conduct safety audits, and develop training programs that enhance employee awareness and engagement.

Key responsibilities include monitoring workplace incidents, conducting safety inspections, implementing corrective actions, and reporting on safety performance metrics. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership skills and effective communication while being proactive in addressing safety concerns, ultimately contributing to a safe and healthy workplace for all employees.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop and implement health and safety policies and procedures in compliance with industry standards, and provincial and federal regulations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement corrective actions and preventive measures to mitigate risk.
  • Provide guidance and support to employees on health and safety matters.
  • Conduct training sessions and workshops to promote awareness and ensure compliance with health and safety legislation.
  • Investigate and report on incidents, accidents, and near misses, and recommend appropriate measures to prevent recurrence.
  • Maintain and update safety records, documentation, and reports.
  • Stay up to date with industry standards and best practices to ensure compliance with evolving health and safety legislation.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections to assess compliance with health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with external agencies and organizations to stay informed about industry trends and participate in relevant forums and conferences.
  • Lead, coach and develop direct reports to ensure high performance and professional growth
  • Conduct regular one-on-ones, performance reviews, and development planning with team members
  • Foster a positive, inclusive and accountable team culture aligned with Elexicon’s Why, Way and How.
  • All other duties as assigned.
KEY SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams).
  • Understanding of office management procedures as they relate to compliance documentation.
  • Outstanding communication and excellent interpersonal skills and ability to be inquisitive while building trust with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational, record-keeping and time management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, management of deadlines, and accuracy while working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Energetic team player with a strong work ethic and a customer focus integrity and the willingness to own scope of work and associated issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor and develop team members with the ability to effectively delegate and provide constructive feedback
  • Conflict resolution and performance management skills
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Post Secondary education in occupational health and safety, or related field.
  • Seven (7) to ten (10) years of experience in occupational health and safety, with at least five (5) years in a supervisory role.
  • Certified Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or equivalent is considered a strong asset.
  • Proven experience developing and managing health and safety management programs in accordance with ISO requirements.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.
  • Experience managing direct reports, including performance management and team development
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks effectively, prioritize requests, and adapt well to change.
