Role: The Summer Sport Camp Instructor will be responsible for the customer experience, leadership, organization, and the planning of our camps.
Reports to: Manager of Sport Services and Children’s Program Coordinator

What You’ll Do:
Customer Experience
- Communicate all pertinent information (camp changes, areas where a child may need extra support, accidents, and injuries) to the parents and/or guardians of the participant in a positive and professional manner.
- Communicate and collaborate with co-workers to provide an engaging and well- organized camp.
Leadership
- Supervise participants throughout all parts of the camp, including during lunch, to ensure their safety.
- Ensure that camp participants are disciplined in a positive, proactive, and appropriate manner which does not hinder safety or self-esteem in any way.
- Respond to emergency situations using training and MNP Community & Sport Centre Policies and Procedures.
- Fill out accident/incident reports when required and follow up as needed.
- Carry a first aid kit and camp radio at all times.
- Be an active participant in the pools during swim time while ensuring the safety of participants (Camp Instructors MUST swim throughout pool sessions).
- Respect and maintain equipment and supplies and encourage camp participants to do the same.
Organizing and Planning
- Plan physical literacy-enriched sessions for participants including sports, cooperative games, teambuilding, and wide games.
- Be aware of any medical conditions within camp groups by reading through the medical packages distributed.
- Follow daily camp schedule, using replacement activities of equal value where necessary.
- Set up and take down of equipment.
Training
- Attend in-services, meetings, and training as required.
What You’ll Need:
Availability
- June 7 & 8 and 14 & 15 (training)
- Monday - Friday from July 2 – August 29; 8.5-hour shifts scheduled between 7:15 AM and 5:45 PM
Qualifications
- 1 year of experience working with children.
- Previous coaching, camp counseling or teaching experience is an asset.
- Experience with children with disabilities and/or special needs is an asset.
- High energy and enthusiasm levels and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills with children and co-workers
- Proven track record working independently and in a team environment.
- Must be comfortable swimming daily in deep water without a personal floatation device.
Education
- CPR C/AED (recertified within 1 year) and Standard First Aid (recertified within 2 years) – required before employment can commence
- Police clearance with vulnerable sector check
- National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) Part A / Level 1 Theory in badminton, basketball, track and field, triathlon or volleyball instruction is considered an asset.
- Program-specific training and experience is considered an asset.
