Job summary

The YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick is seeking a Summer Facility Maintenance Support in Saint John, NB. This seasonal role involves assisting with daily upkeep, minor repairs, and general maintenance across multiple YMCA sites.

Reporting to the General Manager, Facilities and Maintenance, you will work about 35 hours weekly, gain hands-on experience in facility operations, and help keep spaces safe, clean and welcoming for members, staff and the community.

Qualifications

  • Interest in general maintenance, cleaning, or facility support.
  • Willingness to learn YMCA cleaning, safety and maintenance procedures.
  • Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and performing tasks for extended periods.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills and a professional attitude.
  • Flexibility to work weekdays, evenings, or weekends as needed.
  • Reliable transportation to various work sites is required.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED is an asset.
  • WHMIS training is considered an asset.
  • Employment is contingent on a clean Criminal Record Check.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with minor repairs and maintenance, including painting, patching, and basic electrical troubleshooting.
  • Perform indoor and outdoor cleaning and upkeep to ensure facilities are clean, safe, and organized.
  • Conduct inspections of facilities, equipment, and systems to identify maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Inspect, maintain, and support repairs of equipment, including fitness equipment and pool equipment.
  • Complete preventative maintenance checks and ensure equipment is functioning safely.
  • Support landscaping, groundskeeping, and outdoor maintenance at sites.
  • Assist with set-up and tear-down for events, programs, and activities.
  • Maintain work order logs and document material requirements and corrective actions.
  • Work with Facility staff and cleaners to maintain standards across all sites.
  • Adapt to various work environments, including camps and recreation facilities.
  • Follow daily task lists and report safety or maintenance concerns.

The Opportunity

Join our Facilities and Maintenance team this summer and help keep YMCA spaces safe, clean, and welcoming for all. As the Summer Facility Maintenance Support, you will assist with daily upkeep, minor repairs, and general maintenance across multiple YMCA sites as needed. This hands‑on seasonal role is perfect for someone who enjoys working with tools, staying active, and being part of a mission‑driven team.

You’ll gain valuable experience in facility operations while supporting the smooth and safe functioning of our spaces during this season. This is a summer position (average of 35 hours per week), ideal for students or individuals looking to build practical skills. You will report to the General Manager, Facilities and Maintenance and play a key role in helping us maintain a healthy, inclusive, and positive environment for members, staff, and the broader community.

Responsibilities
General Facility Support
  • Assist with minor repairs and maintenance, including painting, patching, and basic electrical troubleshooting.
  • Perform indoor and outdoor cleaning and upkeep (sweeping, mopping, trash removal, etc.) to ensure facilities remain clean, safe, and organized.
  • Conduct scheduled and unscheduled inspections of facilities, equipment, and systems to identify maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Inspect, maintain, and support repairs of equipment, including fitness equipment, cardio machines, pool equipment, and associated systems.
  • Complete preventative maintenance checks and ensure equipment is functioning safely and properly.
  • Support landscaping, groundskeeping, and outdoor maintenance at camp and facility sites.
  • Assist with set‑up and tear‑down of spaces for events, programs, and activities.
  • Maintain work order logs and document material requirements and corrective actions required to address maintenance issues.
  • Work collaboratively with other Facility staff and cleaners to maintain standards across all sites.
  • Adapt to various work environments, including camps, fitness centers, and recreation facilities.
  • Follow daily task lists and report any safety or maintenance concerns.
Skills and Qualifications
