Job summary

Easterseals Florida’s Explorer Academy is seeking a reliable Substitute Teacher to provide classroom support when regular staff are absent. Pay rate is $15.00 per hour, and the position is as-needed to cover staff absences and high census periods.

Hours are scheduled between 7:00 am and 5:30 pm, Monday through Friday, on an as-needed basis. The role supports children’s learning in a nurturing setting while maintaining safety and daily routines.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Experience with young children preferred.
• Florida 45-hour Child Care Training completed.
• Current CPR and First Aid certifications are required.
• Experience with children with disabilities or special needs is a plus.
• Strong, patient communication with children, families and staff.
• Willingness to learn DCF standards, ASQ, Conscious Discipline and best practices.

Responsibilities

• Provide classroom coverage across multiple age groups as needed.
• Follow lesson plans and guidance from the Director or classroom teacher.
• Supervise children at all times and maintain staff-to-child ratios.
• Assist with daily activities such as learning centers, meals, toileting, outdoor play and rest time.
• Support children's social and emotional development through positive interactions.
• Maintain attendance records and daily notes.
• Communicate professionally with families and staff.
• Keep classrooms clean, organized, and safe; follow health and safety procedures.
• Uphold confidentiality and Easterseals policies and privacy standards.
• Participate in training and professional development opportunities.
• Perform other duties to support program operations.

What You’ll Do

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Experience working with young children preferred
• Successful completion of the Florida Department of Children & Families 45-hour Child Care Training in early childhood education
• Current CPR and First Aid certification
• Experience working with children with disabilities or special needs
• Positive, patient, and supportive interactions with children
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to build positive relationships with children, families, and staff
• Willingness to learn DCF standards, ASQ, Conscious Discipline, and developmentally appropriate practices
