Job summary

ABC Head Start Society in Edmonton is seeking an Early Learning Teacher – Explorer Stream to lead play-based, developmentally appropriate learning for children aged 3-5. You will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team and families to support each child’s growth within Alberta’s Early Learning and Child Care Framework.

You’ll contribute to a supportive, inclusive classroom culture, assess progress, and adapt plans to meet diverse needs while maintaining a safe, engaging learning environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Education with a specialization in Early Childhood Education or related field.
• Alberta Education Teaching Certificate in good standing.
• Experience with children who have complex needs.
• Annual Safe Management training provided by employer.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed and inclusive teaching strategies.
• Strong communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills.
• Clear vulnerable-sector police record check within 60 days of hire.
• Standard First Aid/CPR certification or completion within 30 days of hire.
• Legally authorized to work in Canada.

What You’ll Do

• Lead engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons and activities aligned with Alberta’s Early Learning and Child Care Framework.
• Use creative, play-based learning techniques to support children’s emotional, social, cognitive, and physical growth.
• Provide support to children with daily care needs, including assistance with diapering, toileting, and hygiene routines.
• Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team—such as Speech-Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, and Behavioral Consultant to implement tailored strategies that meet each child’s unique needs.
• Build strong, supportive relationships with families to ensure they feel empowered and connected to their child’s learning journey.
• Create a classroom environment that celebrates diversity, inclusion, and belonging.
• Assess developmental progress, adapt learning plans, and continuously monitor outcomes to help each child thrive.

About You

You’re an experienced educator with a passion for creating inclusive, nurturing learning environments where children of all abilities and backgrounds can thrive. Must-Haves:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Education with a specialization in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
• Alberta Education Teaching Certificate (valid and in good standing).
• Experience working with children who have complex needs, including behavioral challenges or developmental delays.
• Willing participant in annual training in Safe Management practices (employer provided training).
• Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and inclusive teaching strategies.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
• Clear criminal record check with vulnerable sector completed obtained within 60-days of date of hire.
• Valid Standard First Aid/CPR certification or completion within 30-days of hire.
• Legally authorized to work in Canada

Nice-to-Haves:

• Familiarity with Alberta’s Early Learning and Child Care Framework.
• Experience working in culturally diverse and inclusive environments.
• A love of hands-on, play-based learning (and maybe some great ideas for messy art projects!).

Working with Us

This is temporary full-time 18 month position with an immediate start date working 40 hours per week.

Compensation starts at $33.42/hour, with opportunities for growth based on experience and qualifications.

Please note: Position may be utilized to support other classrooms/sites for first few months of contract.
