Job summary

Prince Edward County School Board is seeking a Substitute School Nurse to assist in maintaining student health and minimizing illness-related absences. You will support school staff in providing health services and ensure compliance with health policies.

Title: Substitute School Nurse

Reports To: Principal/Designee

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Summary: To assist the school staff in providing the fullest possible educational opportunities for each student by minimizing absences due to illness and creating a climate of good health and well-being in the schools

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Maintains as fully as possible the established routines and procedures of the school and nursing area as assigned
  2. Follows all policies and procedures
  3. Maintains up-to-date cumulative health records of students as required
  4. Coordinates school health services with public health services as needed
  5. Reports to parents, school personnel, clinics, and other agencies on student health matters as necessary
  6. Assists with care for children with special needs
  7. Prepares a list for administrators/teachers of students who have specific health problems that might require modifications of physical activities or seating arrangements in theclass
  8. Reports student/staff injuries and accidents to the building principal, assumesauthority for care for those needing emergency assistance, and provides supervision for students until they are placed under their parents' care
  9. Maintains contact with the local health department and assists in exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases
  10. Assists school personnel in establishing sanitary conditions in schools

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Holds a valid state license as either a registered or licensed practical nurse

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license
  • Valid Driver's License
