Substation Physical Design Engineer (Hybrid)

POWER Engineers Canada is currently seeking an Electrical Design Engineer with experience in Substation Physical design to work out of the Power Delivery Substation Department in our Edmonton, Alberta office.

Responsibilities

• Perform, mentor, and direct others in the detailed design of medium to high voltage utility substations.
• Create detailed designs including one-line diagrams, general arrangements, elevation views, conduit and cable routing, physical layouts, ground grid layouts, and equipment details.
• Perform calculations such as Lightning Protection, Battery Sizing, AC Station Service Sizing, and Conduit / Cable tray sizing.
• Develop technical specifications and design criteria.
• Occasional travel may be required.

Required Education/Experience

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology Diploma.
• Experience in 15kV through 138kV substation design adhering to IEEE/ANSI standards.
• Proven ability to develop detailed physical substation designs and drawings from a scope of work or design basis memorandum with minimal oversight, effectively coordinating with civil, P&C, and studies engineers.
• Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously, including brownfield and greenfield developments.
• At least five (5) years of utility substation design experience as described.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Word.
• Strong command of English, with excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Legal authorization to work permanently in Canada without sponsorship.
• Ability and desire to mentor others in a fast-paced design environment.

Desired Education/Experience

• Professional license (P.Eng) or P.L. (Eng.) is a plus.
• Experience with 230kV through 500kV substation design is a plus.
• Experience with MicroStation (V8 or newer) or AutoCAD (2016 or newer) is a plus.
• Experience with BIM software such as Inventor, P4A, or Primtech is a plus.
