Job summary

Qualus is seeking an Electrical Engineer-in-Training in Calgary to join our Transmission & Distribution Canada team. You will work on projects from concept through commissioning, covering 12 kV to 500 kV, and support multi-disciplinary design in a fast-paced environment.

Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and be EIT-eligible or pursuing P.Eng. With 2–5 years in substation design, you will own design deliverables, mentor junior staff, and contribute to field

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required.
• Eligible for/working toward P.Eng designation (EIT) preferred.
• 2–5 years in transmission & distribution or substation design an asset.
• Experience with substation design including layouts, grounding, and bus design is preferred.
• Familiar with Canadian Electrical Code, IEEE, IEC, CSA, OH&S.

Responsibilities

• Design and coordinate electrical substations (12 kV–500 kV) with limited supervision.
• Lead preparation and review of design deliverables (one-line diagrams, layouts, grounding, bus design).
• Perform engineering calculations and analyses (grounding, lightning protection, switchyard lighting).
• Own assigned design packages and ensure quality and alignment with project requirements.
• Review vendor drawings for compliance with specifications.
• Provide engineering support during construction and field reviews.
• Participate in client meetings, design reviews, and constructability assessments.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams for integrated designs.
• Manage tasks within scope, schedule, and budget; mentor junior EITs.
