Job summary

Imperial is recruiting Chemistry and Chemical Engineering students for the Strathcona Refinery in Edmonton. You will gain hands-on exposure to petrochemical refining processes, safety controls, and unit optimization under staff engineers.

This is a paid work term designed to develop practical skills in a real manufacturing environment. Applicants should be enrolled in a Chemical Engineering program and available for a January or May 2027 start.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master’s in Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
• University Engineering student available for a work term January or May 2027.
• Currently enrolled in a Engineering program and returning to full-time studies after the work term.
• Most recent unofficial transcripts must be submitted with the application.
• Demonstrated leadership and strong academic skills.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with operations, reliability and automation engineers to support safe unit operation.
• Work with cross-functional teams to identify and implement operational improvements focusing on safety and sustainability.
• Effectively communicate unit status, opportunities and operating costs to stakeholders.
