Job summary

Housing & Hospitality Assistant at UBC oversees 24/7 front desk operations for Student Housing and Hospitality Services, including payments, check-in/out, and guest services. The role supports SHHS with data entry, incident reports, and coordinating with maintenance and conferences teams.

The position requires handling cash, balancing, and basic accounting. Shift work includes evenings, overnights and weekends; staff training and open enrollment carry a strong emphasis on customer service

Qualifications

  • Completion of grade 12 or equivalent and graduation from a one-year post-secondary program; three years of related experience.
  • Experience in a university or hotel environment is an asset.
  • Proven experience with cash systems, cash balancing, and basic accounting.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

  • Takes and posts payments; maintains housing, meals, and conference accounts.
  • Reconciles cash and prepares financial reports; processes journal vouchers.
  • Provides check-in/check-out for students and guests.
  • Assists training of seasonal BCGEU staff and student appointments.
  • Maintains residence key inventory and data entry for reservations.
  • Manages mail parcel system and incident reports; follows up on issues.
  • Schedules meetings; updates room statuses with housekeeping.
  • Ensures front desk procedures and policies are followed.
