Job summary

Okanagan College is seeking a Student Employee – Indigenous Services Peer Mentor to support IAS initiatives and assist Indigenous students on campus. You will participate in mentor training, inform visitors about IAS, and help peers engage in events, while navigating the college environment and keeping the Indigenous Centre organized.

Ideal candidates are enrolled in a post-secondary program at Okanagan College and have strong Microsoft Office skills, plus good communication and time-management

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year in an accredited post-secondary program and be registered in a post-secondary program at Okanagan College.
• Prior work experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

Your Opportunity

In accordance with Letter of Understanding #1 – Student Employees, and under supervision of the Indigenous Access & Services Coordinator and in coordination with the Indigenous Transition Planner, the Student Employee – Indigenous Services Peer Mentor will:

Functions and Duties

1. Participate in peer mentor training, meetings and check-ins with Indigenous Access Services (IAS) staff
2. Inform visitors and peers about IAS
3. Engage with all peers in the Indigenous Centre and inform and encourage them to engage in social events
4. Assist on how to navigate through the College environment
5. Submit completed student help forms to supervisor
6. Assist with and attend IAS and campus events
7. Organize and tidy the Indigenous Centre on regular basis

Education and Experience

• Minimum 1 year in an accredited post-secondary program and be registered in a post-secondary program at Okanagan College
• Prior work experience is an asset.
