Job summary

Okanagan College in Vernon is seeking a Student Employee – Indigenous Services Peer Mentor to assist IAS staff and support Indigenous students. You will participate in training, inform visitors about IAS, and encourage engagement in social events while helping peers navigate the college environment.

Minimum 1 year in an accredited post-secondary program at Okanagan College is required; prior work experience is an asset.

Your Opportunity

In accordance with Letter of Understanding #1 – Student Employees, and under supervision of the Indigenous Access & Services Coordinator and in coordination with the Indigenous Transition Planner, the Student Employee – Indigenous Services Peer Mentor will:

Functions and Duties

The Student Employee will assist the supervisor by performing the following duties:

1. Participate in peer mentor training, meetings and check-ins with Indigenous Access Services (IAS) staff
2. Inform visitors and peers about IAS
3. Engage with all peers in the Indigenous Centre and inform and encourage them to engage in social events
4. Assist on how to navigate through the College environment
5. Submit completed student help forms to supervisor
6. Assist with and attendIASand campus events
7. Organize and tidy the Indigenous Centre on regular basis

Education and Experience

Minimum 1 year in an accredited post-secondary program and be registered in a post-secondary program at Okanagan College

Prior work experience is an asset.
