Job summary

University College of the North is seeking a Student Counsellor to support student success by providing counselling, referrals, and a broad range of student services. The role works in community-based programming to deliver accessible support, fostering engagement, well-being, and retention, linking students with academic and support services.

Reporting to the Dean of Students, the counsellor builds partnerships with Indigenous organizations and external agencies, promoting inclusive education

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Social Work or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Minimum of two years counselling experience.
• Excellent leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Proficiency in MS Office 365; ability to manage confidential information.
• Understanding of cultural influences and issues specific to adult learners in northern communities.
• Commitment to life-long learning.

Responsibilities

• Provide counselling, referrals, and a range of student support services.
• Deliver accessible support to students in communities, fostering engagement, well-being, and retention.
• Collaborate with the Dean of Students and other academic/support departments.
• Build and maintain relationships with external partners, Indigenous organizations, and sponsoring agencies.
