Job summary

North Island College seeks a Counsellor in Port Alberni to provide educational counseling and coordinate student support within the Student Services division. Reporting to the Director of Student Affairs, you’ll ensure integration of services and contribute to recruitment programs.

Responsibilities include crisis intervention, education and career counseling, seminars, and group sessions; remote counseling via Skype as needed. Collaboration with First Nations and disability teams is expected.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Counseling or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Registered Clinical Counsellor with BC Association or equivalent.
  • Experience in crises, career and educational counseling at a post-secondary institution desirable.
  • Knowledge of College services, programs and requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide short-term crisis intervention for students in distress and refer to outside agencies.
  • Deliver education counseling to help students adjust to academic life as adult learners.
  • Provide counseling via Skype or other means when not on campus.
  • Assist students in identifying short- and long-term employment goals.
  • Teach seminars and facilitate group counseling sessions.
  • Support institutional processes and policies; assist with complaints or appeals as needed.
