Job summary

MTIE in Labrador seeks a School Counsellor to support students across Kindergarten to Grade 12. You will work with administration, teachers, and families to promote wellbeing, resilience, and positive engagement while integrating Innu culture into counselling approaches.

You will conduct assessments, plan academic and career pathways, handle crisis response, and coordinate referrals with external services in a collaborative, culturally competent environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Education from a recognized post-secondary institution.
• Master's degree in Counselling Psychology.
• Valid Newfoundland and Labrador Teaching Certificate (or eligibility).
• Legal entitlement to work in Canada.
• Clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check (within 6 months).
• Experience in educational or student support settings.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual and group counselling to students facing challenges.
• Complete assessments and recommendations to teachers to support learning.
• Assist with educational planning, course selection, and post-secondary planning.
• Respond to student crises and coordinate referrals with families and agencies.
• Support attendance improvement, student engagement, and school wellbeing.
• Collaborate with teachers, administrators, families, and community partners.
• Promote culturally responsive practices incorporating Innu culture.
